Worst sense of humour on the Board

I could say.... Rooiurinal who only thinks things are funny when he belittles somebody or Clean Cut who only thinks things are funny if violence is involved or Fartur who only finds things related to the new South Africa worthy of his sarcastic humour or Chip-ou who has his own brand of se.xually explicit material. or Tokkie who only finds Matfield truly funny But no.......none of the above. The poster who has absolutely no humour anywhere in his make up, who has never enjoyed even a chuckle on the Board is Basque. A totally sour pill.

 As I have discovered over the years it is extremely difficult to joke around in other than ones mother tongue .And I have seen Mr ABasqueFan crack it for a larrf .

Come now HasBeen.....I'm talking about laughing with you, rather than laughing at you. In terms of laughing at you Basque is certainly a funny guy, but not as funny as RooiUrinal. What a gift the name Urinalmint was to the Board a perfect depiction of his role in life. Reminds me of the Power of One and Pisskop....but even better suited.

 Seb Isaac Walton knew a thing or 2 about fishing ,especially on the fly !You have a fish there called Kob is it ? anyways it has a first cousin here called a Mulloway have tried like a mad thing to catch one on a big deceiver [ orange coloured Deceivers are called a Drumpf fly and only catches very stupid fishies ].Trolling online is a form of fishing I suppose but as far as beandork goes his trolling has more to do with being a hairy arsed git that lives under bridges .

Caught many a Kob off Strandfontein beach with a nice fillet of fresh mackerel.

Wardad...I caught a 27lb kob of this fly...I was fishing off the rocks near Ballito (close to where Ol' Maaik used to live...Tinley Manor) for Shad (called elf in the Western Cape, Tai lor in Australia and Bluefish in USA)...when it took

 Tinley is still a wonderful hamlet and I hope you caught some fish and could have a fish braai.   

Talking about humour...the Indian fishermen of Natal take the cake...what's so funny is the way they speak...their accents and words...very amusing...ie Peter Sellers was good at it.

A mate of mine relates this story one day fishing in Umhlanga Rocks...there's a place where he was fishing...at low tide you have wade out to the rocks...the rocks are covered with barnacles,mussels and oysters and if you don't wear boots...they can do serious damage to your feet.

Anyway he was fishing there one day and noticed 2 Indian fishermen slowly and cautiously wading out to the rocks to where he was standing...there was an old man and a lighty...they took ages to arrive there.

On arrival the old one says to the kid...hey Sammy "pass me the bait basket".

The little okie,startled he looks back to the older one..."no huncle I thought you carry it...I left it by the beach"

"What you mean...you left it by the beach he angrily replies in horror...do you think I cut my toefeet to buggery for nothing !"

 Those "Kob" or Jewfish/mulloway are actually better eating at the larger end of the scale ,butterfish is another name for them here .I caught 8 one night using live garfish from a big wheatloading dock in Adelaide .I only kept one of them because who the hell needs that much fish [ I kept the largest as at 53Lb it was my PB the rest were between 45 and 35Lbs] these other geezers kept crowding in on me each time I landed one so I would move down to the next set of lights then back up again ,one guy was almost in tears begging me not to keep throwing them back!Beautiful silvery fish they are ,2 -3 big runs and you have them beat [ usually ] and have caught some smaller versions on bucktail and rubber tailed jigs .You also have a fish called a bluefish by the yanks called a tailor here that taste like shit but make great bait either live or fillets .Mr mutley indeed theres a lot of standing around just ...standing around by the water !Seb looks like a bit of a gutter running past those rocks and in front of the beach there .A fine place to fish ,but fishing is fine anywhere no matter what you do or dont catch.

Those are impressive sizes Wardad...would be a haul on a number 7 fly rod...in SA the record is 82kg...this was released ecord is 82kg....

Here they are perhaps the tastiest of all but they must be cooked fresh...cannot be frozen...if you freeze them they become mushy and awful tasting...the secret is to clean them as soon as possible and eat them same day or the next.

 

My son Paul lives in Adelaide and goes fishing early in the morning often before work...he spins and fly fish's and catches a fish they call Salmon in Oz...it however is not a true salmon...by the way in Natal they too call Kob, salmon too but again it bears no relation...LOL the Indians call them "Simonfish"

All different names for one species of fish...this is true worldwide but in SA fish can have different names in different regions and/or provinces...very confusing to the laymen.

 When I was still in Durban we used to call them silver salmon while they were juvenile and kob when they were big. I grew up on a farm just outside Umhlali when it was just a small village. There was the Standard Bank, Thompsons Butchery, Spar and pet shop if I recall correctly.We used to fish near Thompsons bay and also near Chakas rock.

 Lots of Elf by Bailey's Cottage in the old days, Galjoen as well but you wouldn't want to eat one. Personally I favour the Yellowtail as a table fish. Never fished in Natal Xavi, never surfed in Natal either......always a bit curious, especially about the sardine run.

 for those surfers...the cape from eland bay on the west coast right along coast up to north coast in natal like fishing in the right conditions was good to excellent

 Seb ,Moz those Tailor/Elf are great on light gear but I could never be arsed bleeding and icing them down unless I was gonna smoke them [ yup soggy and hard to light !],but first class bait when fresh.I learned to surf as a young fella on an old longboard ,still cant be bothered on anything else but Im just ornery and 'differenty"

 Fantastic smoked! Almost better than snoek.

 Mr Draad is a "snoek " like an Australian "snook " I wonder ? Long eel like body very tasty eating !On some longer fishing trips I would sometimes take a portable smoker .

 You guys call it a barracouta, the snook is something different.

 PS, I don't know of anyone ever catching one from the shore. They have nasty teath on them and you have to break the neck before you can take the hook out.

Most surreal fishing experience I ever had was on in Florida fishing for some Jack Cravelle....immensely strong fish pound for pound. It was twilight and the water was inky black. About 20 feet away I saw what I thought was a piece of debris floating in the water. But when it came by, no further than 5 feet from me, it turned out to be a very large Manatee moving by in stately fasion. The solitude, twilight and this huge mamal I could reach out and touch made it an almost religious experience.

 Moz a few years ago two of my younger daughters and I were fishing at the w aters edge in the canals by our house when a huge dugong surfaced no more than 2 meters away rolled on its side and gave us a bit of a look over !It was the size of a station wagon and was covered in scars from boat propellers and what looked like a shark bite .Like the manatee you witnessed its Aussie cousin departed for the open water in a stately fashion ,its brilliant to see such a creature unfettered and up close .My daughters were delighted beyond words to get so close to such an amazing creature .One of lifes unexpected joys to be able to see such a thing ,especially with your kids !
