What has happened to this site? Impressive I think

Have a good xmas all, lets hope like hell that utter insult of a coach in Coetzee is given the boot and that the rumour that another quota selection in Davids as his successor is nothing more than a rumour. While Davids is a better option than useless Coetzee he is by no stretch the best candidate for the job.

The obvious man for the job is Ackerman, did a great job with the Lions and now has Gloucester sitting at 2 on the prem table......the guy is our Eddie Jones

Hello Dave, a merry Christmas to you.....what seems to be the rumour is Rassie will control things through Davids. We need one man in charge who is at the same level as the top 5 teams. These two years really set us back.

Welcome back Saffex, Merry Christmas to you also. In terms of this site, you can put lipstick on a pig but it’s still a pig, lol but seriously the new format is good.

Agreed Moz, the last two years have been a complete waste and I feel for the players who have had to endure a coach none would have had any faith in. I guess as supporters we have to reconcile to the fact that we are never going to be presented with the best options, be it as the coach or the best available 23 on the day.

For now I can live with Rassie directing Davids, its difficult to judge Rassie as he has always operated on the fringes, never the sole responsibility for a team, something he will yet again be doing with the Boks. Munster have been very impressed with his time there, which is a positive sign. By all accounts he has a great rugby brain.

As for Davids, I must admit he impressed me with what he did with the Kings in such a short time. He had very little to work with in terms of players but had them playing a good brand of rugby and challenging well by the end of the comp.

He looks better equipped than Coetzee who has always favoured the out of touch conservative approach.

Reality is we know so little about Rassie and Davids, which means our expectations are in limbo, which is better than the no hope we carried with Coetzee directing.

We certainly have the players to make a fist of things, we need what Eddie did with England, turning the same players under Lancaster as no hopers into world beaters

Ackerman was the obvious man for the job, but SA never does the obvious

Now get rid of Coetzee? Madness. Lobbing heads got you guys into this mess. I though Meyer wasn't that bad actually and I think Coetzee is let down a poor player pool. Ackerman has definitely earned a shot at top job partiucularly the last couple of years. I think coetzee is the kind of guy that does better when inheriting a stable team and Ackerman is the better team builder. But it won't take long before you guys find a reason to hate him too! Its inevitable part of being a south African.

By the way happy holidays to you too :)

Wow Eric you are either stupid or delusional on two counts, firstly your take on Coetzee is the joke of the year, he is utterly bloody useless, there is not a single positive in the man as a coach.

Meyer was stuck in a time warp advocating an out of date game plan and selecting players way past their sell by date. But Meyer was at least a credible coach back in the day 10 man rugby worked. Coetzee has never been a credible coach.

Let down by a pool player pool, what utter rubbish, we have more young talent than ever, given poor direction. We have more talent than England do and just look what a great coach has done for them. Under the Lancaster, the very same players failed, but Eddie arrived and changed that.

Ackerman did the same at the Lions and now at Gloucester - the obvious difference is the coach and you clearly dont see this given your naive take on the utterly useless Coetzee

Wake up man.......geez a 46% win record after 2 years is a disgrace and you mention the word madness, what planet are you on????

Mate, where the hell did that come from?? Meyer wasn't playing 10 man rugby. Innfact he was usina similar strategy to New Zealand teams like the Crusaders by playing patterns to dominate the middle of the field and his biggest flop was not maybe equipping the team to win field position like the All Blacks did to South Africa every damn time! Who was it runninfrom deep? The Boks. Honestly, who in the Bok pack would be an all black? I'd select zero. Not one half back or centre would be good enough to play at any senior level of New Zealand rugby, and not because they lack skills but because they are stupid and can't even show a basic intellect by learn in from past experience/mistakes! Mate, I don't rate Coetzee as all that but the man is one of the most experienced and successful South African coaches at Super level and actually has international coaching experience but you now tellinme that ALL the blame is on him?? Let me guess, you were one of those guys celebrating an Peter's Boks were winning but then blaming him alone when it all went bad?? Typical flakey fair weather fan memtality. Always the coaches fault but never mindnthat the players are weak and dumb and make really bad decisions. Is it Coetzees fault that you have forwards that don't know how to position themselves at rucks? Or how about run into the strongest parts of the defence repeatedly. Or not fixing your man?? Basic schoolboy stuff. If that's what your seniors and "best" players are doing them may god have mercy on your souls because your schoolboys must look as chaotic as a chook farm! What good is a playing pattern and plays if they can't sum up situations. Coaches can't make a stupid person un-stupid or willing to learn. So yeah, I don't let Coetzee off the hook in my books (not that its even my team) but don't come tell me that its only the coach's fault because your as deluded as hell. When you have players that can at least look competent then maybe it'd look like talent being held back, right now that isn't anywhere near how it is. From what I can see Meyer kept a below average player pool more competitive than it should have been. Now the older heads have gone (the over the hill nobodies as you tell me) the drop off in performance has been unbeliebable! Sort of like the Aussies under Deans. Be careful what you wish for. Maybe some day that penny might fall. Maybe. Till then stay your happy cheerful self.

Snapster I said as much myself. The cerebral Rassie will of course only be fully appreciated by  a limited number of people with real rugby acumen! Dr Mozzz fails the test I regret to say!

Eric you have confirmed you are not delusional you are just plain bloody stupid. Meyer played like the Crusaders did he, what utter horse shit, he played it narrow investing in the likes of Morne Steyn at 10, who spent most the game hoofing the ball away.

As for Coetzee being our most experienced coach and what was it you said most successful at Super level - where do you drag this shit from, do you think that by speaking shit that somehow adds weight to your garbage? He might be experienced, experienced at being utterly shit......he was piss poor for the Stormers, advocating that boring conservative approach much like we saw with his Boks.

As for the Boks versus Kiwi players, I dont rate any of your players over ours other than Read at 8, Barrett at 10, Smith at 9 and Ione on the wing......that's where it ends.

Kitshoff, Thomas du Toit and Kebble are better than any of your looseheads

Marx is better than any of your hookers

Young Wilco Louw looks a better tighthead prospect than any of yours.

You only have Retallick and Whitelock, the rest of your locks are bog ordinary. Give me Etzebeth over Retallick any day and Steph du Toit over Whitelock.......not to mention the rest like Lood, Paul Willemse, RG Snyman and Jenkins

Cane is about as average as they come, give me Jaco Kriel or Kolisi anyday

Squire and the new lad who did a disappearing act all through the NH tour are hardly world beaters......I'd take Jacques du Plessis or the du Preez twins anyday

I'll give you Read at 8 but he is 30 odd now and if I was Bok coach, I'd have Ulsters impressive Marcel Coetzee at 8

Your centres are as bog ordinary as they come, SBW is a hasbeen and Crotty is about as creative and impressive as a fish out of water. He had a solid season but its the first time he has ever impressed. As for the rest, L/Brown etc are as average as they come.

We have centres to burn in SA.....last year de Allende and Jessie Kriel ripped your pair to shreds but have suffered under Coetzee since. Serfontein had a great RC, was far better than SBW both in defenders beaten and clean breaks made. We have great depth in Rohan Janse v Rensburg, Am, Vorster, Frans Venter, EW Viljoen, Louw, Esterhuizen and Odendaal.

We are yet to select the correct wings, idiot Coetzee chose to select lightweights like Skosan, Rhule and Lleyds who were physical liabilities. We need to see investment in Nkosi, v/Wyk, Ismaiel, Combrink and Mapimpi

Gelant should be our 15, he offers the same package as McKenzie

You seem a little stretched over the credentials of your players, fact is the Lions got the better of you, not a bad for a part time side, the Irish had you, as did Oz and we were better than you in SA this year, you won thanks to an interception. You are also fortunate to have not faced England, for chances are Eddie would mastermind more pain for you.

I'll keep it simple for you - the only reason you are better than us right now is not because your players are better but because they are better directed by a merit coach and your side is selected on merit.......something that does not apply in SA

Dream on dimwit

You don't rate any of our players? Mate you are on crazy drugs! We scored four years worth of tries against your rabble in four tests! See my thread below called G'day Bokke for details and learn something useful! So over four tests New Zealand is ahead 26 tries to 3 but you yell me that South Africa arenbetter man for man apart from a couple of players??? You are insane! Who is an idiot again? My god you are weird one. And yeah Coetzee has made a few Super rugby finals and over many seasons had the best overall South African team with the best defence. But do let me guess, Coetzee was an ape picking his nose doing nothing when a white guy did that but when it all went wrong the ape took over the controls when they were taking a leak?? Yeah, sure. If you can't see how stupid your logic is then I don't know what heck more I can say. Enjoy your man for man better than New Zealand 6th (soon to be 9th) placed team. Hehehe!

---------------

Rassie and Jacques Nienaber were the brains behind the operation- so it appears Coetzee was picking his nose and doing nothing. Not because he is not white, but for the simple reason he is a crap coach. He is the worst Springbok coach in history- and should have been sacked ages ago.

Jacques Nienaber was the architect of the drift defence that the Stormers used, and Rassie did most of the player recruitment.

The Stormers played their best when Rassie was the coach- before he got shifted sideways into team manager. The first thing to fall apart was the team attack, and then eventually the team defence always fell apart.

If you had to have a South African coach of the All Blacks - who would you choose between the last 4 Springbok coaches. Jake White, Pdivvy, Meyer, or Coetzee?

The reality is even our best coaches are not very good- but unlike the Northern Hemisphere we cant select on merit- and choose a top quality New Zealand coach.

IF were comparing players. Marx is not better then Coles. None of the boks locks are better then Whitelock and Brodie, the two best locks in the world. Our Props are probably neck and neck with your lot. Joe Moody and Owen Franks i would pick over the Boks loosies and tight heads.

Playing in a winning AB team, Marx and Etzebeth would be immense. Ever noticed how when a team wins in Super Rugby numbers of their players make the TOW, only to drop out when they lose. Playing in a confused, poorly coached Bok team....Franks, Coles etc would look pretty ordinary. They aren’t mega talents. Marx and Etzebeth are.

I can buy that this nienaber was the head man of the defence but what has Rassie done?? You say he was one of the brains well if Nienaber was sorting out defence what was Tassie doing about the Stormers poor attack? And you tell me he'd make a good Bok coach? The man doesn't even have the guts to doing any coaching officially and hides inside tube boardroom! That's if what you are saying is correct about him doing the rest of the coaching. What I can see is that there is nothing absolutely zippo that you can point to to prove that he is better than coetzee! And you go off the rails about nienaber. Architect?? Of the drift?? You have your wires crossed on this. No team ever does one defensive pattern exclusively. And the Stormers liked to pressure a lot with a blitz scheme and use their outside center to cut off the wider areas anyway. But whatever I think this Nienaber could definitely help the Roboks out a little at least when we take into account what you have to work with which isn't very good right now.

Mozart, your players aren't skilled enough to be All Blacks. Plain and simple. At least in the forwards. But its worse then that because your players in the current gen are too stupid to be All Blacks. They can't even do basic things like look ahead at their direct man on breakdown defence they always ball watch and get out maneuvered before the ball leaves the ruck. Your locks have zero skills and at best Eben is direct but his work rate is iffy. He tends to disappear for pong stretches and his "look at me I'm a big hard man like daddy Bakkies" is hardly helping the team. A young guy who looks in love with himself. There's a definite metrosexual vibe about some of the new gen players. Like to have their nice hair and probably pampered in the changing rooms before they go out and concede nearly a dozen tries to an All Black team that you people believe is man for man worse than the Roboks who can't even process what is happening in front of them. That kind of disrespect and arrogance is what makes people dislike the Boks and Bok fans. One off win (or near win against a depleted All Black team who already wrapped up a tourney) and then you guys puff up like an elephants backside stung by a thousand hornets but then back to reality and you turn on each other like a pack of dogs. Could a New Zealander do a better job? Of course yes but overall it won't be the same because New Zealanders are better educated and work constructively so the players will still be inferior. And overall you guys don't want to ever change what you are doing just complain until you get different results by doing the same failed thing over and over again!

@Eric. Rassie was the head coach of Munster for the last 2 years. He resigned by applying a clause in his contract. Munster made him see out his whole notice period- so they were impressed with his skill.
I don't see a team like Munster making Coetzee their head coach.  Perhaps Heineke Meyer, but not Coetzee.
Coetzee is a not an international standard coach or selector.  He always gets outsmarted- even by the crap SA coaches. Brendan Venter is not much- but he always has Coetzee's number when their teams have played against each other.FFS- Coetzee lost to Italy last year- when Venter was italy's assistant coach

The Stormers attack was good when Rassie was the Stormers coach. They were scoring lots of tries. However, Rassie moved to team manager to avoid the politics of being in the public eye.Rassie also won 2 back to back Curry Cup finals for the FreeState with a limited playing pool- and when the Currie Cup was still competitive.
The Stormers did primarily use a drift defence- Which is opposite to a rush defence. Adrift defence uses the touchline as the last defender. (It has been less popular over the last 3 years than the rush defence). Munster also offered Jaques Nienaber the role of head coach at Munster after Rassies resignation- but he declined...
The Lions appear to be thinking players- and have made the SuperRugby finals for the last 2 years running. Having a coach that thinks also helps. Ackerman seems to have learnt from John Mitchell. Some of our coaches choose creatine donkeys. A smarter coach could probably identify smarter players.

Mate, I know all the variations of a drift, blitz, jockey and hybrid systems. The stormers haven't had a great attack since the early naughties. And yeah, I know Coetzee sucks. My point is that the fans always blame the coach and then pressure him out of a job and end up with someone worse. In hindsight Meyer was screwed over. A lot of you guys hate Peter but you ended up with him because you guys heckled Jake out of a job after winning the World Cup and building a great team. What's going to come after Coetzee? If Ackerman got the job (the only man left I actually rate at all) he'd still struggle with these players and even if he did win it won't be long before fans turn on him. It seems like a south African to attack each other and bring each other down. Afraid of others success?? Who knows but its ugly to watch from the outside in.

@Eric
Jake White was told to apply for his job again after winning the world cup in 2007.
At the end of 2006, it was already in the media that Pdivvy was going to be the coach in 2008. It was not a selection process of due diligence, rather a selection made on race. Even SARU announced at the time that it was not just rugby reasons, for Divvy getting the job.
Meyer resigned from his post. He was offered the job to continue- but would not accept 50% selection of race.
Pieter Devilliers would not get offered any rugby coaching position outside of South Africa- but that is probably more to do with his PR skills or lack thereof, than just average coaching ability. (He inherited Jake Whites winning World Cup team on a platter)

I no longer live in SA, but it seems this type of stuff is going on in the workforce. Many companies in South Africa like SAA (South African Airways) only employ black Africans.
SAA Black Empowerment

That means all races- not just whites cant work for certain companies in SA. (e.g. coloured, Indian, or foreign people). So if you ever wanted to live in SA- you would be limited by your nationality or race. (N.B- Black in South Africa is considered black African)
I don't think people in other countries realise the level of racist discrimination that happens in SA today. Yes, Apartheid was bad, but many people that suffer today were not even born within the Apartheid era- almost 30 years ago...Additionally- whites were to blame for Apartheid, why should other races (not African Black) suffer?

Apparently, any company in SA with over 8 people has to have a black director. It is African Communist Democracy. Reward initiative  by paying a passenger.
If Africa is going to apply this policy- then they should be subject to this if they live in other countries.

It is indeed quite strange that since Saffex's last thread which this is...started with a WOW...

Prior to this I thought snapping Dave had,had enough...he was so disgusted by the coaching of AC as was us all that he left...

Or maybe Eric the Red, who I think is right in many ways chased him away...both have radical views and there was a bit of bad words and feelings that ultimately sent both packing.

Dave is a good poster at times and knows his rugby well but he is fiercely loyal to the players in SA and rightly blames our bumbling coaches for our present demise but I agree with Eric in a certain context of the players mentioned above from NZ are better players, not because they are physically better but because they are better trained and skilled. They are in this context far more effective because of this...there is definitely contradiction in what Snapster had to say.

Hey Dave how are things in Ipswich? Is it still closed?

I hope Dave decides to come back...we actually miss you Saf.
