TRY 1

27:41 - B13 secures loose ball. Stands and turns under pressure, slips ball to B7 who is driven backwards. B14 cleans ruck, as SCO threaten a steal. B5 comes in to protect ruck.

27:50 - B9-(B4)-B15 deep cut ball. Boks have a 4v3, as SCO defend with very compressed line. B15(B10)B12, cut ball. B12 runs straight as edge defender moves outwards to meet him. B12 short ball to B6 right next to him. B6 runs straight to the very last defender in line and gives short ball to B11.

SUMMARY

This was exceedingly poor defending. They got swarmed on the outside. From the little I have already seen, Scotland have major defensive system issues. It was poor in everything I have seen of the game thus far. All Damian and Kolisi had to do was run straight. The Scots had to burst from their compressed line to cover so much ground, it was all too easy.

TRY 2

41:53 - B21-B10, high ball into SCO territory. B6.B13.B14 rush up. B14 disrupts S11 from fielding high ball. Ball is loose, S11 gathers, turns, B6 lowers upper body as he makes contact. He gets his arms under S11's and holds him up. He sends a sharp and powerful shove up to dislodge ball, he gets hands on it and rips it out. B13 gathers, runs around the pool of players towards seam. He gets beyond the first tackler with B16 right behind him. B16 guides him to ground and secures breakdown. B5.B18.B17 protect ruck and shield B21.

42:11 - B21-(B8)-B15 miss ball. B15 in middle of field. Long ball out to B10. Boks in concentrated numbers out wide. It's a 5v2. B10-(B4)-B12. B12 runs between S12 and S14, S14 the edge defender. S14 makes the mistake of turning around in the wrong direction, showing his back to B12. B12 proceeds into open space. S14 feebly slips tackle. B12 falls over as his dumps off to B11. B11 beats last two defenders with ease.

SUMMARY

This started with great pressure from Kriel to disrupt the catch. After that Kwagga was monstrous in making that turnover. Again, the Scots were swarmed on the outside, and it was too easy. The Scottish wing turning his back, as the edge defender, it's unforgivable. Credit to Damian for not stuffing it up. Overall. It was about average. He did what he needed to do. But again, we see Damian excel most when given free empty space. 8.5 performance? Not from these clips.

Scottie number 14 was very poor, likewise Scottie number 12.

Usually passive defending against the Boks isn't a problem, but not against s o many numbers in such mismatches. I haven't watched the whole game, but Kriel actually looked switched on. You'll never see Nkosi do these things. Not surprised about Kwagga. Very disappointed to see Scotland give up two tries like this, certainly expected more pressure. From what I saw Scotland's 12 was totally anonymous.

I still want an explanation for why this warrants an 8.5 for Damian.
