Another disappointing year for Kriel, and under new coaching. If there is something there, Kriel hasn't found the coach who can unlock it. He hardly ever beats a tackle despite good pace and obvious physicality.
Here we have a player with almost zero nous....he barges flat out into the first tackler, without ever looking for support. He never gives himself time to allow the defence to commit.....it's frenetic, gormless stuff.
On a slightly brighter note his gym work seems to have improved his tackling....he is no longer so easily shaken off. But he is still not a convincing low tackler or a good reader of defensive situations.
No team with poor centres has ever won the WC.....think back to Horan cutting up the Boks in 1999 and Mortlock sinking the ABs in 2003. Kriel by contrast, is at best a warm body.
