Man mountain if ever there was one
I dont see what all the hype is with this kid. He is too short to be a class international lock, he is grossly underweight too. He hates the physical stuff and lacks grunt needed.
Springboks dont need a man like this. We need an "enforcer" so look no further than Ross Skeate ;-)
@boklogic you must be kidding.....!
Ross Skeate could not enforce a 5 year old to each their vegtables at supper time.
When he last played for the Sharks we practically had to sellotape him together to be able to walk onto the pitch, and this was the occasional times when he was not injured.

James Small was interviewed at the start of last year and he said that he would have been scared to get onto the field if Etzebeth was playing..
Strongly disagree Sharkbok. I do not like skinny locks like Etzebeth. We need enforcers to take us forward. Guys in the mould of Albert Vand Den Berg, Ross Skeate and Victor Matfield.
We need to move away from these "glamour boys" like Etzebeth because they too precious to role their sleeves up and get stuck in. Extremely weak and no impact in the tackle. Nancy boy of note!
Sharkbok, I am very obviously kidding. I was trying a new technique I have invented. I name it "saffixation." It is in art whereby you "swim against the tide" and have the opposite opinion of everyone else even though the facts are in front of you and your theory is ludicrous. You need to stick to your guns even if you have been exposed (as I did with Skeate when u exposed me for what Skeate really was) and tell everyone they simply wrong or twats. Basically, it is a fixation on a player and that player can do no wrong or you choose a much worse player and drum his case home over the logical choice. ie. Kolisi over Labuschagne and so on..List is endless. Its a work in progress though. Pretty close to perfecting it ;-)
Etzebeth is a freak and our pack wouldn't look the same without him.
Scary thing is, for years people have spoken of Bakkies and Brad thorn as "the ultimate enforcers" in world rugby and it took those men years to build that rep. Etzebeth is being spoken of in this regard after 1 season of international rugby and no one can say its premature. He is that good!
He is making a complete mockery of Bakkies who we all thought was what a lock should be and we would not see someone like him again in many a year. Taking nothing away from Bakkies, he did a great job for us and will go down a legend but Eben does "Bakkies" better than Bakkies did Bakkies as Eben has that added advantage of also being an amazing athlete. Incredible specimen and grateful to have him playing for us rather than against us. Sharks will still beat Stormers with him though ;-)

I like what you said about Saffixation. That term really is revealing and has been so with Saffex. It came out that Steyn is out of form and that Plumtree wants him back in form and even if he comes back - he will probably be played at full back - not center - since he relly dos not have the skills and ball sense to play at center. In his recent posts Saffex keep on drumming "Steyn isthe bes no 12 in SA" and he should not have been replaced by the lousy Bosman. He totally disregards the present situation - becase he has a fixation with Steyn at 12 come hell or high water.
His other fixations are with JJ Engelbrecht and Hougaard - he cannot see why Meyer dropped them from the squad and Scrummie stating line up respectively. They are "damn good". He absolutely disregards any thing negative about performances and then invent another angle - downplay the performances of the aternative comtenders by making totally unproven allegations about their performances.
As a result - Saffex is rarely right about player performances - despite all his professed rugby acumen. Etzebeth is one of those rare cases. I think he is top class and I hope his mate Malherbe learns the iron will aspect of his character. Malherbe's father is a very good friend of mine - and I met Frans a number of times. Can only hope he goes further in the sport - a very nice youngster.
The other player I have the same views about is Pieter-Steph du Toit. He is also very big and I am sure he is going to end up as Etebeth's lock partner if he performs according to expectations. His grandfather "klein Piet Spiere" must be very proud of this guy. Pieter Steph is 6'8" and 118 kgs. Grandfather was 6'!" and 96 kgs - hence the "klein".
Wow Stringbean you are so bright and inventive - its scary
Boklogic....I name it "saffixation."
HAHA..lol...excellent malapropism.
I think crafty Mike will enjoy that one...he's been trying "Saffixation" for some time now but you have summed it up in just one word. I think even Saffex had a smile on his face???
From now on I will call you Mr Malaprop.
PS In case some of you posters from Pofadder,Boksburg and Klawer and/or Waikato think this has something to do with a prop that's mal and we have a few of those around...I suggest you either take the time to consult the internet wikipedia or dictionary...lol
