This is his form in 2018. What a joke. A primary school player could have done better
Zane Kirchner at his best- Side Show Bob on Rassie's Radar?
SB
Was he ever any better?
Why on earth was he being played at 10? He was never a great kicker. He could play 15 and 13, not flyhalf. I wonder if this coach received some coaching tips from Mallett!
I'll give him some props on the dance. It must have been a dare.
Pardon me - he was never a great player!!!!!!!!!
Incorrect. You have been debunked time and time again.
That pass to the pods. I've seen you defend mistakes like that. Either way, we'd need to see more than two errors to evaluate a performance. Tats why I show everything when I post videos. Cherry picking can create any kind of false impression, though I do find it odd that he played flyhalf. Giving him the place kicking duties was also very odd.
Just before the Japan Match, Heineken Meyer said that Kirchner has never had a bad game for the Boks. Meyer also said that no one takes more flack from the public than Kirchner.
Then in the Japan match, Kirchner delivered a performance on par with this video and proved instrumental in the loss.
Regardless of if you flyhalf or fullback, it is not going to affect your basic skills. For example, does playing flyhalf suddenly make you throw forward passes, or kick the ball out on the full - or all the other countless errors by SideShow Bob. This is just a lack of basic skills.
Do you see Bharat or Willemse do this when switching between 10 and 15?
And this guy kept a skilful player like Aplon out of the team because he has a few extra kgs's
Insofar s performance is concerned I have about the same deficient faith in what Meyer said and what AO wrote.
In the Japan game Kirchner made one bad mistake, a kick that went into touch which setup a Japanese lineout just outside our 22. Aside from that, he was actually one of the best Boks on the field. He was excellent throughout 2013 , and good in 2012. It was frustrating watching Goosen miss his excellent runs against New Zealand. That of Taute as well. Reviewing film paints a very different picture of these players. Kirchner was definitely a scapegoat. If he was a Shark it would have probably given him another 4 years in the Boks setup. Some of the most lauded players have performed significantly worse. I can cite Lambie, Reinach, Goosen, JJ, Damian, Lood, Mvovo, Kolisi, Jacobs, Coetzee. I'm sure there at least a few more.
Deficient faith? Yes, I'd agree with that.
AO
Sorry - I should have written NO faith and not deficient faith when it came to Meyer and his pet Kirchner
Listen this thread is about Kirchner. So lets continue discussing him. If he did play for the Sharks as you suggested -
* he would have struggled to get into the Sharks team in 2012; but
* Plumtree may have performed a miracle and turned him into a good player.
Fact is with Meyer as coach and playing for the Bulls he was kept on as a full back way past his sell-by date. There is no way players without deficiencies are made scapegoats by the viewing public. Unlike you they see what really happen and react to deficient players.
I haven't seen him play in years, so I can't comment on his recent form, but when he was still playing in SA I had no problem with him. A solid player that did the basics pretty well, even though he lacked X factor.

I think that Kirchner was a very average player at best - nothing brilliant in fact. I did not think he really was too poor to play for the Springboks, but Le Roux was a far better player.
My problem was that AO turned him into a super player - which he was not. AO started a five years campaign against Folau - based entirely on the fact that according to him Kirchner outplayed Folau in a test in 2013 - the first test Folau played test rugby for Australia.
There need some reality here. Perhaps we were too harsh on Kirchner because as you said he had no X-factor. However, in the main SA rugby fans did not miss him when he did not play for the Springboks in the remainder of 2013, 2014 and 2015 before the WC match against Japan - in which match he was really sub-par.
He is not in contest for selection in the squads under Erasmus and any discussion on him is really an exercise in futility.
Bluebok
Tell that one to AO.
Kirchner outplayed Folau throughout the RC. Its plain as day. I have no problem in admitting Folau is the better of the two since then, the greatest try scorer in Super rugby history, but Kirchner still outplayed him throughout the 2013 RC. Why is there so much resistance in accepting that? It looks and awful like that prejudice Mike keeps harping on about.
Then to top it off, blame the Japan loss entirely on Kirchner. He was the first player most "fans" went for. None of them pointed out Kriel or Coenie. Not even Steph or Lambie, who was outclassed from the first second by Ono. He is indeed a scapegoat.
However, back to that video. He is utterly diabolical

You have repeated that story about Folau and Kirchner just after you joined under the name of Lurker when I posted a remark bout the danger of high balls kicked by he Springbok with Folau's danger in the air.
When I then stated that the message sounds familiar with what was posted in the past by you under other user names and challenged you on the issue, it became clear that even in 2018 you admitted nothing of the kind you mentioned above:-
"Kirchner outplayed Folau throughout the RC. Its plain as day. I have no problem in admitting Folau is the better of the two since then"
I do not keep bringing up the Folau story - it is raised all the time where you spread distortions of a long list of players claiming they were deficient on the same basis as you claim Kirchner was brilliant.
It would help of you keep to reality in future.
The only way for a club player such as Kirchner to outplay an international standard player- is if Folau was out of form.
At no point has Kirchner been better than one of the best backs in world rugby.
He is hopeless in this video. Many of his mistakes were with yards of space and no pressure. Whoever considered him at flyhalf should be shot.
So Kirchner has enormous clown-feet which would require enormous clown-shoes ? Thats a bit harsh ....although like sideshow bob it would make him harder to knock over .
