Mr Pace has something familiar about him, but I can't put my finger on it yet. Similar to Card, but not quite. We'll see. 

 Why are people able to use "sock" registering?  Why not simply write a script that references the IP address of a new user and if same as existing refuse login or register.
Yes, the clever ones will be able to use a spoof proxy server.  But even then there is a "fix" when an IP address of a registered user changes more than X times in a space of time then the user should be suspended and an automated e-mail sent.  This will also solve the bogus e-mail addresses.
Yes, you cannot keep all of the mischievous user at bay but that would eliminate the silly arguments as are evident in this thread.
