The team has been strengthened by the return of several key players. Siya Kolisi, the two-time World Cup winner, is back and focused on mentoring newer team members under Project 2029. Cheslin Kolbe, known for his explosive play, also returns to his home team, although he will miss the initial five games due to a jaw injury sustained while playing for the Springboks. Additionally, Wilco Louw, renowned for his scrum dominance, has rejoined the team, bolstering the front row.
"Despite the setback with Kolbe, we're feeling confident about our setup this season," said Dobson.
Paul de Villiers, a standout performer last season, is one Stormer to watch. Having secured 19 turnovers, just shy of the league's top performer, and after a series of commanding displays, he received his first Springbok cap. His aggressive play and knack for the ball have made him a crucial player for the Stormers.
Flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu was the regular-season top scorer with 158 points, and No. 8 Evan Roos led as the top try-scorer with 12 tries, highlighting the offensive strength within the team. The departures of experienced players like Dan du Plessis and Scarra Ntubeni have been offset by these promising talents and strategic new signings.
Looking ahead, the Stormers kick off their 2026-27 campaign with away games against Connacht and Edinburgh, followed by a series of matches at home, including derbies against the Lions and Bulls.
