Johan Ackermann has thrown the gauntlet down in a bold move ahead of the Vodacom URC clash at Loftus this Saturday, as his Bulls team gears up to face a resilient Zebre squad. Despite a significant reshuffle in the lineup, Ackermann is adamant that this is no slight on Zebre, who have been clawing their way up this season with some commendable performances.

In a surprising twist, the Bulls’ lineup looks drastically different from previous games. Ackermann has decided to promote several players who are usually seen warming the bench, asserting,

“We felt that at some point we needed to give the guys who’ve constantly been getting game time off the bench, a chance to start. Put them in that scenario for a change.”

Essentially, the benchwarmers are now starters, and the usual starters are riding pine.

The most notable change comes with Kurt-Lee Arendse, who is making a shift to fullback in light of David Kriel’s injury. Ackermann clarified,

“The only difference is with Kurt-Lee’s scenario which we were forced into by the injury to David Kriel, so the reality is we just wanted to test our depth at fullback.”

Despite the heavy rotation, the underlying strategy remains robust. Ackermann is clear that the threat Zebre poses is well recognized within his squad: “I must make it clear that we’re not underestimating Zebre,” he stated firmly. He highlighted the Italian side's recent performances, adding, “If you analyse them, you’ll find that sometimes they’ve just been unlucky, and there’ve been small margins.”

This game is set to be a crucial test for both teams, as the Bulls try out their depth and Zebre looks to capitalize on any perceived weakness. With the stakes high, this matchup at Loftus promises to deliver some intriguing rugby action.
