The All Blacks are set to receive a significant boost with the return of the Barrett brothers, Beauden and Scott, for their Rugby Championship opener against Argentina. However, the squad faces setbacks as key players Wallace Sititi and Tamaiti Williams have been ruled out due to injuries, potentially paving the way for a Test debut from Chiefs standout Simon Parker.

During a recent press briefing, head coach Scott Robertson provided updates on his team's condition. Unfortunately for the All Blacks, Sititi and Williams will not be part of the upcoming match in Cordoba. "Wallace is still not available for the first Test and Tamaiti Williams has still got another week of full training with us before he becomes available for the second Test as well," Robertson explained.

The team has endured a tough injury spell with several players, including Tyrel Lomax, Luke Jacobson, Caleb Clarke, Cam Roigard, and Noah Hotham, staying back in New Zealand for rehabilitation. Amidst these challenges, the recovery of the Barrett brothers comes as a relief. Captain Scott Barrett is back from a calf injury, and fly-half Beauden has recovered from a broken hand. Robertson expressed his satisfaction with their recovery, stating, "They’re great. Beauden’s hand is fine and Scooter’s leg is all good. He’s rehabbed really well, and he’s taken the chance to recondition. He’s in great condition."

"He’s ready to roll. He has slotted straight in,"

The absence of Sititi opens a slot for Simon Parker, who could make his first appearance in All Blacks colors. Parker, along with Peter Lakai and Josh Lord, joined the squad following their National Provincial Championship commitments. "The boys off the plane who played NPC made it pretty well. They travelled with us today and they were great," Robertson added. Parker’s integration into the team was seamless, and sharing his journey with the team was a poignant moment. "It was a nice moment for him. It’s All Black tradition, when someone arrives and is named into the squad. It was a great moment for us to get him into the group and be part of the All Blacks," Robertson reflected.

As the All Blacks gear up for the clash against Los Pumas, the return of key players combined with fresh talent may just be the formula Robertson needs to kick off the championship on a high note.
