In a dramatic twist to their Currie Cup campaign, the Boland Cavaliers will be marching into Sunday's clash without their stalwart captain, Marlyn Williams, who has succumbed to a facial fracture. The showdown against the formidable Vodacom Bulls in Wellington promises high stakes and high drama as Williams’ absence reshuffles the deck for the Cavaliers.

Stepping into the fray is Jurie van Vuuren, who will be making his debut in a high-pressure environment, filling the void left by the injured captain. Meanwhile, the captaincy baton is handed over to No 8 Thurlow Marsh, who will need to rally the troops in what’s expected to be a grueling encounter. The reshuffle doesn’t stop there. Sibusiso Sangweni makes a timely return from an ankle setback, slotting in at blindside flanker and pushing Ludio Williams to openside in place of the ousted Sauliegh Arendse.

The front row witnesses its own carousel of changes. Mthokozisi Gumede is set to make his mark with a starting berth at loosehead prop, while Doctor Booysen steps up to tighthead, dispatching Dayan van der Westhuizen to the bench. The backline remains untouched, a nod to their effectiveness, spearheaded by the fleet-footed Donovan Don, whose six tries in three rounds have left opponents gasping.

New faces are aplenty in the team sheet, with hooker Llewellyn Classen eyeing his Boland debut after his move from the Pumas. Scrumhalf Godlen Masimla, too, finds a spot on the bench, gearing up to inject fresh energy into the game.

“The team is buzzing with the new additions, each bringing their zest to the field. It’s about channeling that energy into a cohesive performance,” remarked an optimistic Marsh.

The Cavaliers' lineup for Sunday reads like a roll call of eager talent ready to stamp their authority: 1. Mthokozisi Gumede, 2. Sidney Tobias, 3. Doctor Booysen, 4. Michael Benadie, 5. Jurie van Vuuren, 6. Ludio Williams, 7. Sibusiso Sangweni, 8. Thurlow Marsh (c), 9. Louis Schreuder, 10. Ashlon Davids, 11. Xavier Mitchell, 12. Lunathi Nxele, 13. David Brits, 14. Donavan Don, 15. James Tedder.

Off the bench, the Cavaliers have depth, with the likes of Llewellyn Classen and Wayrin Losper ready to leap into the fray. As the clock ticks down to kickoff, all eyes will be on how this reconfigured Boland side handles the pressure cooker that is a date with the Bulls.
