The Vodacom Bulls pulled off a gritty performance to overpower Benetton at Loftus Versfeld, clinching a home quarter-final in the URC with a decisive 45-19 triumph. Although they dominated the scoreboard with seven tries, the match was tensely poised for a significant duration. This victory propelled the Bulls from fifth to third in the standings, with a potential slip to fourth pending Leinster's upcoming match.

The game kicked off with an explosive start as Canan Moodie sliced through Benetton's defenses, setting up Sergeal Petersen for a spectacular corner try. It wasn't long before veteran Willie le Roux, connecting with Handré Pollard, darted under the posts, escalating the Bulls' early lead.

Benetton, however, found their rhythm, leveraging their robust maul. Rhyno Smith orchestrated a play that allowed Louis Lynagh to narrow the margin. The Bulls, undeterred, answered back fiercely; Johan Grobbelaar's touchdown from a maul further padded their lead. Despite a couple of disallowed tries and a yellow card for Benetton's Alessandro Garbisi, Cobus Wiese bulldozed through to secure the bonus point just before the break.

The second half saw Lynagh again slicing through early, casting a brief shadow of doubt over Loftus. But Petersen, with an electrifying double, along with additional tries from Mpilo Gumede and Ruan Nortjé, ensured a commanding finish for the Bulls.

"What’s a try-fest at Loftus without a maul?"

As the final whistle blew, the scoreboard read an impressive tally with Bulls notching up tries from Sergeal Petersen (2), Willie le Roux, Johan Grobbelaar, Cobus Wiese, Mpilo Gumede, and Ruan Nortjé. Handré Pollard was near flawless, slotting five conversions.

Benetton's efforts were highlighted by Louis Lynagh's brace and a dynamic solo try from Rhyno Smith, who also added two conversions. Despite their spirited comeback and moments of brilliance, the Italian side was ultimately outplayed.

With this robust display, the Bulls have not only secured a critical home advantage for the playoffs but have also sent a resounding message to their rivals about their championship ambitions.
