David Kriel, the dynamic centre for the Vodacom Bulls, is buzzing about their prospects as they gear up for their first United Rugby Championship (URC) tour of the season. With back-to-back bonus-point triumphs already pocketed against the Ospreys and the reigning champs Leinster, the Bulls are hitting the road with their eyes on a trio of victories in Ireland and Scotland. It’s all about coming home with the full set: Ulster, Connacht, and Glasgow Warriors, watch out!

The Bulls aren’t just aiming to scrape by; they’re out to conquer, with Johan Ackermann at the helm, pushing the squad to embody their battle cry: grit. "Our coach is big on battle words, and one that stands out for me is grit," Kriel shares. This tour isn’t just another series of games; it’s a litmus test for their championship mettle.

"We really want to win silverware this season, and this tour is going to be the perfect test for that. We’re really excited and hopefully everything works well in our favour."

Even the best laid plans face challenges though. Fresh off a rousing win against a tough, albeit depleted, Leinster team, Kriel recalls the rollercoaster ride of emotions during the game. Despite a powerful start, Leinster clawed back, temporarily stealing the lead before Kriel himself dashed through for a crucial intercept try, sealing the deal for the Bulls.

"You can’t pitch up and just expect it’s going to happen; you’ve got to make it happen. Luckily, the scoreboard was in our favour, but there is a lot to work on," remarked Kriel, highlighting the relentless nature of rugby at this level.

The Bulls are not just carrying their hopes but also the expectations of their fans, with a full roster save for three key players staying behind. As they embark on this tour, the battles they face on foreign fields will be a true testament to their title aspirations this season. With fierce resolve and strategy, the Bulls are charging forward, ready to turn challenges into triumphs.

Teams: Bulls, Ospreys, Leinster, Ulster, Connacht, Glasgow Warriors
