In a thrilling clash at Arms Park, Cardiff ramped up their game to secure a crucial 22-16 victory over the Stormers, propelling themselves into the top tier of the Vodacom URC standings. Despite early dominance by the Stormers, Cardiff's resilience shone through, snagging a bonus-point win that boosted them temporarily to third place in the league.

The match kicked off with the Stormers' scrum looking formidable on the 4G pitch, earning them early penalties and leading to Cardiff captain Liam Belcher receiving a yellow card for persistent infractions. Capitalizing on their numerical advantage, the Stormers' Adré Smith bulldozed his way through to score, with Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu nailing the conversion for an initial 7-0 lead.

"Despite the setback of being a man down, our response was immediate and effective," remarked a defiant Belcher.

Cardiff was quick to counter, though, with flyhalf Ioan Lloyd delivering a masterful cross-kick to Jacob Beetham who dazzled his way to the try-line, leveling the scores at 7-7. Momentum firmly swung Cardiff's way when Tom Bowen capitalized on a flawlessly executed backline play, edging the hosts ahead.

The Stormers managed to narrow the gap with a Feinberg-Mngomezulu penalty, but another yellow card — this time against Smith for a high tackle — saw Cardiff extend their lead just before halftime with Lloyd skillfully maneuvering his way to a try in the corner.

The second half saw the Stormers briefly regain the lead with another Feinberg-Mngomezulu penalty, but Cardiff's Beetham soon responded with his second try of the night, pushing the score beyond reach. As the game progressed, the Stormers struggled with execution, a concern for head coach John Dobson with the quarterfinals looming.

The night's other matches saw Connacht overpower Edinburgh, while Glasgow Warriors' narrow victory over Ulster ensured a dismal end to Ulster's top-eight aspirations, simultaneously securing the Lions a spot in the playoffs.

Cardiff: Tries: Jacob Beetham (2), Tom Bowen, Ioan Lloyd. Conversion: Lloyd.

Stormers: Tries: Adré Smith. Conversion: Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu. Penalties: Feinberg-Mngomezulu (3).
