The game kicked off energetically with Cheetahs winger Prince Nkabinde intercepting a Faf de Klerk grubber to open the scoring, complemented by a Jaco van der Walt conversion. The Sharks retaliated with a try from Janco Purchase, converted by Tim Swiel, leveling the score.
The back-and-forth continued with De Klerk sneaking one under the posts, only for the Sharks to respond through a robust try by prop Simphiwe Ngobese, making it 14-14 at the break.
