It was a spectacle in Wellington as Donavan Don turned hero, notching up two tries to spearhead Boland's ambush of the Lions in a riveting Currie Cup showdown. The Lions, undefeated until then, fell hard in a 29-10 defeat that surely had their pride licking wounds. Alongside Don, Xavier Mitchell and the bench's secret weapon, Juan Mostert, also crashed over the try line, ensuring the Lions' roar was silenced efficiently.

The match kicked off with the Lions marking their territory early, but Boland's defiance was signaled when Lunathi Nxele took a brief hiatus to the sin bin. Despite being a man down, Boland’s spirit was anything but broken. Don, the Blitzboks flyer, dazzled the crowd first, diving over in the corner after a muscular show from the forwards. The Lions clawed back with Kade Wolhuter slicing through Boland's defense to even the stakes. However, James Tedder nudged Boland ahead with a well-struck penalty.

The scrum then became Boland's playground. Dominating the set-piece, they bullied the Lions into repeated penalties. Ashlon Davids masterminded the next move, breaking the line to set up Don for his second, pushing Boland to a 15-5 lead by halftime.

Despite a spirited attempt to rally by the Lions, with Gianni Lombard scoring while Tedder was sin-binned, Mitchell's subsequent try and Tedder's conversion restored Boland’s 10-point buffer. The coup de grâce was delivered by Mostert, who darted over post-hooter to cap a stunning victory.

"Everybody loves a Chicken Wing ?? Sanlam Boland Kavaliers open the scoring as Don scores in the corner ??"

Looking ahead, the Lions will try to regroup as they travel to face the Pumas, while Boland, high on confidence, prepares to host the Bulls in what promises to be another thrilling encounter. The stage is set, the players are ready, and if today was any indication, Boland is a team that's not just participating in the Currie Cup—they're playing to dominate.
