Eben Etzebeth is striding back onto the pitch after a hefty 12-week ban for a notorious eye-gouging incident, but the Sharks are shaking things up by leaving a constellation of their star players on home turf. The team is setting their sights on the EPCR Challenge Cup's last-16 face-off against Connacht in Galway this Friday, without the presence of their regular captain André Esterhuizen, power players Siya Kolisi, Bongi Mbonambi, and the dynamic Grant Williams.

The Durban-based squad is evidently laser-focused on the Vodacom URC, where they currently rank 10th with just four rounds left to climb. They find themselves trailing seven points behind the eighth-placed Bulls. Yet, despite the strategic sidelining of key players, the Sharks are not showing any signs of waving a white flag for the European competition.

"When you get to this stage and you are committed to two competitions, you do require a squad effort,"

said Nick Hatton, the team's No 8, highlighting the depth of the squad's talent pool. Hatton continued to express optimism about the dual challenges ahead. "We’ve had a good few days of preparation back home in Durban, and hopefully the squad will get us through. We are looking forward to what we can put out."

With the knockout stage on the horizon, the stakes are undeniably high, and the Sharks seem ready to bite back with renewed vigor. Galway presents a rugged battleground, but the Sharks are not short on confidence.

"This is knockout rugby. We know we need to win if we are to progress. Galway is not an easy place to go out and win, but we have belief in our systems. We feel there is a good chance of us doing something special here,"

affirmed Hatton. As the Sharks gear up to make waves in Galway, all eyes will be on how this bold strategy unfolds on foreign soil, especially with the towering figure of Etzebeth back in the fray, hungry to make up for lost time.
