Eduard Coetzee Appointed CEO of Saracens

Eduard Coetzee, a former Sharks standout and veteran leader, has been named the new CEO of the Saracens, a premier English Premiership rugby team. Coetzee, whose tenure as a chief executive comes after significant roles in South Africa and France, will take up his new role in London for the 2026-27 season.

Transitioning from his latest role as the CEO of French rugby club Brive, a position he has held since July 2024, Coetzee brings a rich blend of field and boardroom experience to Saracens. His professional journey includes over 300 matches as a prop, coupled with executive stints, prominently at the Sharks, where he became the chief executive in 2019 after roles in commercial and marketing leadership.

Coetzee’s rugby career began with the Sharks, where he played four seasons after advancing through the club's development system. His playing career later took him to France, where he spent six years with Bayonne and Biarritz before transitioning into management.

"It is a tremendous honour to join Saracens as chief executive officer," Coetzee stated. "My focus is to build on the strong foundations already in place, fostering a culture where high performance, accountability and continuous improvement underpin everything we do."

Dominic Silvester, the chair of Saracens, expressed his pleasure at securing Coetzee for the top job, highlighting the meticulous approach the club took in making this decision. Saracens aimed to find a leader who not only had a robust track record but also a deep understanding of rugby culture and excellence.

"I have seen first-hand the tremendous achievements he delivered while at the Sharks… I am confident that, in Eduard, we have a top-class executive who understands our culture."

This strategic appointment comes at a time when Saracens are keen to reinforce their position both in domestic competitions and European challenges. Coetzee's leadership style, emphasizing accountability and continuous improvement, is expected to drive Saracens forward in achieving these goals.

With a new season on the horizon, all eyes will be on Coetzee as he begins his tenure at Saracens, bringing his unique blend of on-field grit and executive acumen to one of rugby’s most storied clubs.
