England's hopes of repatriating Joe Marchant have been dashed, as the dynamic centre is set to remain in the Top 14, fulfilling the last year of his contract with Stade Francais. Despite the allure of Premiership rugby and re-eligibility for the England Test squad, Marchant's anticipated return has fizzled out.

Marchant, who celebrated his 29th birthday recently, was reportedly on the radar for a move back to England after his stint in France. Having joined Stade Francais post his impressive run at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, where he started six times for England, the speculation was ripe last month about his potential return. However, he has opted to stay in Paris, where he has become a pivotal player for Stade, a team that reached the semi-finals last year but struggled this season, finishing 12th.

French media, including a detailed report from rugbyrama.fr, confirmed that Marchant would continue with Stade Francais, quashing rumors of a transfer. The report highlighted, "Joe Marchant will still wear the Stade Francais jersey next season and will honour the final year of his contract with the Parisian club." It noted the absence of any formal request or offer for an early contract termination, which means Marchant will remain a key figure in the Stade lineup.

"His future seemed unclear last month, and a return across the Channel was even mentioned, particularly by the British press, to Sale. But the England international (26 caps) never left the squad led by his compatriot Paul Gustard,"

the report added.

With the new season approaching, all eyes will be on Marchant as he prepares to kick off with Stade’s first game against Montauban on September 6. As a versatile player capable of operating both in the centre and on the wing, Marchant’s role in revitalizing Stade’s attack will be crucial, especially after a disappointing season. As the Parisian club looks to climb back up the Top 14 ladder, Marchant’s presence and performance will be under intense scrutiny.
