In a daring lineup shuffle, Siya Kolisi will thunder onto the field as No 8 for the Springboks' tussle with the Wallabies at Ellis Park, marking his maiden voyage in this position for a Test match. The captain's shift is just one of the bold strokes painted by coach Rassie Erasmus for the Rugby Championship's curtain-raiser.

Kolisi, alongside the formidable Pieter-Steph du Toit and Marco van Staden, completes a loose trio that's looking less like a part of the team and more like a wrecking crew. Manie Libbok is set to orchestrate the play from the No 10 slot, pairing up with Grant Williams to form a halfback duo that could spell trouble for Australia. Meanwhile, Edwill van der Merwe, with his lightning pace, holds onto his wing position, stepping in for the recovering Cheslin Kolbe.

"We’ve been experimenting with player combinations during the Castle Lager Incoming Series and at our conditioning camp in the last two weeks, and we believe this team will allow us to play the type of rugby we want to play against Australia,"

Erasmus explained.

The Wallabies, hungry to amend their recent losing streak against the Boks, are expected to come out full throttle. Erasmus respects the challenge but believes his squad has the edge.

"The Wallabies will be determined to change their win record against us in the last three seasons, so they’ll come out guns blazing, and we are confident that the players we selected will be up for the challenge. All of the starters except for Edwill have faced them before, and we are confident that he is ready for this challenge,"

he added.

Despite Kolbe's availability after a minor setback, Erasmus chose to keep Van der Merwe on the wing, citing the player's impressive form this season. This decision leaves Kolbe more recovery time and ensures Van der Merwe can continue to capitalize on his current momentum.

The team sheet is a blend of experience and fresh talent, with 18 Rugby World Cup winners and three players with fewer than five caps, including Jan-Hendrik Wessels, Van der Merwe, and Asenathi Ntlabakanye, who recently debuted against Italy.

This match is also a milestone for Eben Etzebeth, who will notch up his 134th Test appearance, tying with Welsh legend Gethin Jenkins on the all-time global list. The Springboks aim to extend their recent dominance over the Wallabies, seeking their fifth consecutive win, a streak that includes victories both home and away in the past seasons.

As the Springboks gear up to face the Wallabies, it's clear Erasmus isn't just playing to win; he's playing to dazzle, disrupt, and dominate.
