The drama thickens for the British & Irish Lions as head coach Andy Farrell updates the press on the conditions of key players Marcus Smith and Darcy Graham after a tightly contested match at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne. The Lions eked out a 24-19 win against the First Nations & Pasifika XV, marking their narrowest margin of victory on the Australian tour.

Marcus Smith, who was subbed in during the 67th minute, had a brief stint on the field before exiting for a head injury assessment (HIA). Fortunately, he passed the HIA, bringing a sigh of relief from Farrell. "He is fine, he has passed everything," declared Farrell, confirming Smith's availability for the upcoming second Test against the Wallabies at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

However, the news was less positive for winger Darcy Graham, who suffered a left ankle injury and had to leave the field in tears. Despite the setback, Graham had a moment of glory, scoring a try at the 11th minute. Farrell expressed both concern and pride regarding Graham's situation. "He is devastated. To become a Lion and score a try as well, he should be unbelievably proud of himself. He is going for a scan in the morning, so we will see how that looks," Farrell shared.

"We lost a run of ourselves after a good start, going 14 points up and started playing some fancy rugby that was never on, and we didn’t earn the right."

The Lions' performance fluctuated throughout the game, with Farrell acknowledging the team's initial missteps and subsequent recovery. "We addressed that at half-time. I thought we had better intent in the second half," he commented. The comeback was crucial for the morale of the squad, especially for those for whom it might be the last tour game. "In the end, so pleased for these guys because for some of them it might be the last game on tour, so glad for them to get over with a W in the end," Farrell added.

Farrell also highlighted notable performances that helped tilt the game in their favor. "There were some great performances by some individuals. I thought Ben White was very good, Jamie [Osborne] obviously and some of the lads coming in playing their first game for us, so delighted for all of them." As the Lions prepare for their next challenge, the team's strategy and lineup are under careful scrutiny. "There’s always food for thought. We do what we always do. We review this game and have a meeting tomorrow and select the side tomorrow evening," concluded Farrell.
