Moodie: Boks Set to Dominate Scots at Loftus

The Springboks are set to utilize their altitude advantage and aerial prowess to overpower Scotland in the upcoming match at Loftus Versfeld, with Canan Moodie alerting the opposition to brace for a tough encounter. Moodie, who has called Loftus his home for three seasons, emphasized the strategic use of the 1,300m altitude to enhance their gameplay against the Scots. "It's a fortress for us. The altitude isn't just about the physical effect, it's about how we play, putting them under pressure, being confrontational in the collisions, so by the end of the game they feel they’ve played a proper South African side," he explained.

High-ball contests are anticipated to be a crucial aspect of the game. Moodie noted, "We’re well prepped for the high balls. They come with different tactics, but we’ve been doing this for years, so we trust our system and just clean up where we can." The Springboks' familiarity with this element of play is expected to give them an edge in the match.

Scotland, coming off a strong win against Argentina, largely features players from the Glasgow Warriors, whom the Vodacom Bulls recently encountered in a URC semi-final. This familiarity could play to the Boks' advantage. "The majority of this Scotland squad is from Glasgow, so it gives us a good view of their attack and how they like to play," Moodie added, acknowledging the threat posed by the Scottish backline when they expand their play.

"Every team has different tactics there. We’ve adjusted while staying true to what’s worked for us, and we’ll execute our plan. If it doesn’t work and they come with something different, we’ll adapt."

Rassie Erasmus' coaching philosophy of fostering competition within the team resonates well with Moodie, who appreciates the push from younger players. "We train at such a high level that you get pushed to your limits. The young guys push you, and that brings the best out of you," he stated, affirming the no-comfort zone approach adopted by Erasmus.

Moodie, set to play his 25th Test match, will be starting on the wing. His responsibilities are clear: "My job this weekend is on the wing, and I’ll try to execute that as best I can: high balls, defensive structure, attack," he said, demonstrating his readiness to tackle the multifaceted challenges of his position.

The teams are gearing up for an intense match that will not only test physical stamina but also strategic execution, with Moodie and his teammates determined to leverage every advantage they have at Loftus Versfeld.
