Morné van den Berg's Strong Comeback Against Los Pumas
After months on the sidelines due to bicep surgery, Morné van den Berg is set to don the Springbok jersey again in the upcoming match against Los Pumas in Argentina. This Saturday marks the 28-year-old’s first game for the national team in 2026, following a challenging rehab period.

From Buenos Aires, where the Springboks are preparing for the clash at Estadio José Amalfitani, Van den Berg shared insights into his journey back to fitness. "There was a lot of motivation for me," he said. Surrounded by supportive teammates and coaches, he feels ready and eager to dive back into the action.

"I have incredible people on my side who helped me so much. I’m really feeling good."

Since making his Test debut back in 2024 against Portugal, Van den Berg has quickly become known for his dynamic play, accumulating five tries in previous matches. But last year's injury posed a new challenge, coinciding with other players seizing opportunities to shine.

Despite the competitive environment, Van den Berg focused on what he could control, dedicating time to physical and mental training. "You don’t always get what you think is best for you, but I did my best to make the most out of my situation," he explained. His goal was clear: to contribute positively to the team.

"To come back and just compete, it’s incredible. At the end of the day, you serve the Springboks; whatever it takes to make the Springboks better, when you get into the system, you do it."

The scrumhalf also noted the tactical evolution in the game, particularly around the rucks. Last month's match against Wales highlighted the effectiveness of clean, fast play, with Embrose Papier and Herschel Jantjies impressing with their agility and smart execution.

His adaptability could be crucial for coach Rassie Erasmus' strategies. Having played multiple positions in his youth, Van den Berg is open to wherever the team needs him most. Though he hasn't trained outside his usual position yet, his willingness to adapt speaks volumes about his team spirit.

He emphasized, "I’ll do anything the coaches want from me. If they think I’ll be a good fit there, then I’ll definitely do it with passion and pride."

With the team already in Buenos Aires, their focus is sharpened for the upcoming challenge against Los Pumas. As Van den Berg gears up to reclaim his spot and prove his resilience, the excitement is palpable, both for him and Springbok fans eagerly anticipating his performance on the field.
