Hi Ruckers
Join us as we launch our Total RANKERS platform. It's a game that we developed from the ground up for us to enjoy together.
The game itself is fairly simple...Make 3 team selections each game week and earn 3 points per win.The catch: The combined ranking of your 3 teams needs to exceed 15.
So you can't simply pick teams ranked 1,2 and 3 as their combined rank is only 6.
It keeps things intresting as you need to consider which outsider has the best chance to win!

The game was released today in its first iteration, so please take it easy on us!

There are going to be enhancements and improvements as we evolve the game.

So please join in now.

Make your picks for this game week.

This years winner will win 2 tickets to any international match outside of the RWC. (T's and C's apply)

We hope that you enjoy what we have put together for you.

Yours in rugga

Ed

PS: If you spot any issues, please send is a kind message to let us know and we will attend to it as soon as possible. Mail us at ed@ruckersforum.com

Well, this is new and I see participation in this as a way to thank Ruckers Admin  for giving us the platform to moan and b!tch about what's going on in the game we love most...and it seems simple enough. We will shame those not partaking.  Only 3 picks a week. Even my ADHD self can cope with that!

Where are you Beenz, you have risked much more than this before?

Thanks Ruckers Admin, Flash and the rest of the team.

Nice one Admin!!! Good to see that you guys have come up with a completely new game. The first round is always a massive shot in the dark, but I can't wait for it to start. As DB has noted, even those of us with the attention span of a goldfish can play this.

The Admins have made the effort to come up with an entirely unique game just for us and it looks like it'll be good fun . And it is really REALLY simple and quick. At least just check it out guys. Hi Ruckers

So far the engagement has been great.

We're up to 12 players now which is more than we anticipated. so this is great.

If this becomes a real trend, we are going to start introducing some more prizes.

@Roonek, we bypassed the bookies and used the rankings from last year.

Each week the rankings will change according to log position. Keep that in mind.

Enjoy game week 1!

Ed, if you used last year's rankings then surely the Crusaders should have been #1?
Not that it's a problem for me this round . . . my total ranking score for this round is a whopping 23 . . . but just wondering what the Hurricanes did to deserve being ranked #1 and last year's winners only #4.
Oh well, it's only for the 1st round that this is an issue. Going forward I assume it will be based purely on log standings.

You picked the Lions to win away from home against Bargie?

@ Plum,

I don't watch as much Super Rugby anymore and didn't check if the Lions were home or away.

They could still stuff the jumped up Bargies on a good day away.

Only really joined the game as a courtesy to Ed and the Forum for creating it so I don't expect to do well.

Plum, your guys can definitely break their hoodoo. The Jaguares are going to miss Nicolas Sanchez. One player doesn't make a team but Sanchez was their general and a calming influence in a team that generally needs a lot of calming. I think they'll struggle without him.

I too have picked them to win in Argentina.

It's high time we sent a strong team through to South America.

We need a good start and an away win would boost our boys confidence going forward.

Go Lions!!

It's an indication of how unpredictable Super Rugby can be that only two of the 14 teams playing this weekend haven't received a single tip to win on Total Rankers and they are the Rebels and the Waratahs.
Plenty Aussies are tipping the Rebels to be the top team in the Aussie conference this year while the Waratahs are home to the unpredictable Hurricanes and must have some kind of chance.
3ku1 is by far the most adventurous tipper . . . he's the only one tipping the Highlanders and he's also the only one tipping the Blues.
Chippo and Ed have both tipped the Sunwolves to beat the Sharks. Hope you guys have a CRAP weekend!

Hey Admin, is there a possibility that once the picks have been made we can refer back to the original rankings page? Once the pics are locked in I am happy with the fact that we cannot change them, but it would be nice just to review which teams are where in he rankings. I don't know if that makes sense? But basically, I can't remember how many points each team has allocated to them according to their rankings, so if I look at the leader board and I want to compare my picks with those of other members, I have no idea how my choices stack up because I can't remember where the different teams were in the rankings .

hi, in my view the way the rankings are made is not the best one,.... to base the rankings  on last season's log but then finally end up not basing the rankings on last year's log (as the saders 4th place proves) is kind of strange

as the game is formulated I think it would be better to classify the games according to its difficulty to forecast the outcome,... in this week's case the team that's easiest to choose as winner, or less gains gives in bets, or more people choose as winner in platforms like Superbru, is the Sharks,... then rank Sunwolves as 15 and Sharks as 1
the next easiest game would probably be Blues vs. Crusaders,.... the 14th last season against the incontestable nº1,... rank Blues as 14 and saders as 2,... and so on,... the next one 13-3,... then 12-4, 11-5, 10-6 and 9-7

and what would make the game more interesting and fun it would be instead of giving 3 points each team that win, to give each team the same amount of points as their rank,... in the case of the game Sunwolves-Sharks, the players who have choosen the Sunwolves as winner would receive 15 points if they win and those who have choosen the Sharks would receive just 1

Hi ABasquefan

Rankings change weekly according to log position.

However your idea of handing points based on log position is really nice.

Its too late to implement that now, but possibly for the RWC.

Thanks for your input.

Even more accurate would be a system where the aim is to get the lowest score and you simply subtract the winning team's ranking from the losing teams ranking and award that many points.

Example:

If the #3 ranked team beats the #7 ranked team (predictable) then you score 4 points (or 15+4 if you predicted wrong).

If the #3 ranked team beats the #14 ranked team (highly predictable) then you score 11 points (or 15+11 if you predicted wrong).

If the #7 ranked team beats the #3 ranked team (unlikely) then you score -4 points (or 15-4 if you predicted wrong).

If the #14 ranked team beats the #3 ranked team (highly unlikely) then you score -11 points (or 15-11 if you predicted wrong).

That system doesn't just look at the ranking of the winning team, it takes into consideration the quality of the opposition and rewards players who tip the less likely results. There would also be no need to limit players on what they could or couldn't predict because the punishment for getting it wrong is equal to the reward if you get it right.

Lets first see how this works out. No need to change something that should work just fine. As things stand it is still going to come down to the person who is most accurately able to predict the winning team, and the person who is able to strike the best balance between risk and reward that will ultimately win. We are all bound by the same rules, so it'll be perfectly fair.

14 Feb 2019, 15:23#25

that could be another possibility, rooi,....

if the chiefs of the site decide to keep drawing the ranks from the log, your proposed system would be a way of reaching what I was proposing, to give the points based on the difficulty of the game,...

anyway, what I think is a must is to systematize the way of establishing the rank,... if it's based on the Super Rugby real log, then be it,... but this means that the ranking should be:

1. Crusaders

2. Lions

3. Waratahs

4. Hurricanes

otherwise is confusing to have the ranking based on last year's log as:

1. Hurricanes

2. Lions

3. Waratahs

4. Crusaders

Hi Rooi and ABasquefan

Thanks for your input. Very valuable and relevant.

The next time we have a think tank over Total RANKERS, we'll send you an invitation to join us.

We have some ideas of where we would like to go with the platform and your opinions and input would be invaluable.

you're wellcome,.... it would be a good idea to have a "think tank" about it,... the users' feedback is always important,... and 20 heads always think better than one alone,...

I would participate with pleasure in it

Yes, I agree BlueBok ... the last thing we need is to complicate it unnecessarily ... keeping it simple is usually the best.

Let's see how it goes ... oh and by the way, didn't you commit yourself to joining us in one of the Fantasy competitions this year?

If so ... then I'd join the Rugby Magazine's version if I were you ...

Hi Beeno

Once you are logged in on RuckersForum, you are logged in to the game.

But right now the game week is closed as the games are already underway.

If you would like to join, give me 3 teams that you back to win this week (but have not played yet) and I will manually add you to the competition.

Blue, telling Baboon-ou to hurry up only puts additional stress on his feeble little brain that is already overheating with the daunting task of making three decisions.
