Rassie Erasmus: Series Win Beyond Game One
Rassie Erasmus, the Springbok coach, has emphasized the importance of a strong start against the All Blacks at Ellis Park, yet he stresses that the outcome of the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series won't be determined in the first game. As the four-Test series prepares to launch, future games will see the teams clashing at Cape Town Stadium, FNB Stadium, and conclude in Baltimore, USA.

Erasmus, who disclosed his team lineup on Thursday, expressed the critical nature of the series opener but highlighted the importance of perspective.

"The pressure is certainly on. It’s a massive series, and how we start is very important."
However, he quickly pointed out that early games do not necessarily dictate the final series outcome.
"We’ve learned from the British & Irish Lions series, we’ve learned from World Cup pool matches that are lost early, it’s only going to be determined in game three."

The coach also praised Damian de Allende ahead of his 100th cap milestone, recalling De Allende's physical prowess in matches against formidable opponents like Sonny Bill Williams. Rassie described him as a key physical presence on the field whose quiet demeanor masks his significant influence within the team.

Further addressing the cultural aspects of the international meeting, Erasmus discussed the respect his team holds for the haka, a traditional Maori challenge performed by the All Blacks before games. Recognizing the profound cultural significance and emotional power of the haka, he expressed the honor felt by his team in witnessing it.

"You won’t see us doing funny tricks when they do the haka, since [assistant coach] Tony [Brown] has described it for us, it’s actually an honour for us to face it. It’s a very emotional, proud thing to be a part of. It’s something very powerful. It doesn’t scare us, we enjoy it."

As anticipation builds for the inaugural match of the series, all eyes will be on how both teams manage the immense pressure and expectations set upon them. The strategies set forth in the first game at Ellis Park will undoubtedly set the tone for the rigorous contests ahead, making every match a crucial step toward securing ultimate victory in the series.
