Richie Mo'unga Anticipates Strong Wallabies Challenge

All Blacks' flyhalf, Richie Mo'unga, is bracing for a formidable opponent in the Wallabies, following their impressive triumph over the Springboks. Coming off a 42-38 victory in Perth, their fifth consecutive win under coach Les Kiss, the Wallabies are heading to Eden Park buoyed with confidence for the upcoming Bledisloe Cup match.

Mo'unga, who rejoined the All Blacks for the intense Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series against the Boks after a hiatus since the 2023 World Cup, acknowledges the renewed vigor within the Australian squad. "After watching the Aussies on the weekend, it should be really exciting," he commented during his interview with Newstalk ZB.

“Even if you take the weekend’s result out of the equation, any Aussie team you play against is a real threat.”
“I think after the weekend, they would have grown an arm and a leg. So we’ve got a big challenge ahead as a team, but one we’re really looking forward to. We can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Mo'unga also touched upon his return to the national team, which meant familiarizing himself with new strategies under coach Dave Rennie and meeting new teammates. He admitted, "A lot was new. I met half the team for the first time; the likes of Wallace Sititi and Peter Lakai – those guys weren’t there when I was last here, or even in Super Rugby."

The seasoned player highlighted the unchanged high intensity and pressure in the All Blacks camp, which remains a constant regardless of the changes. "One thing that [Rennie] has given us is free rein and license to play what we see. He likes a game that’s high tempo, and that we express ourselves and use our skills to do that,” Mo’unga explained.

With the absence of Ruben Love due to injury, Mo'unga is aware that he might be called upon to play a critical role in the upcoming series, yet he takes nothing for granted, emphasizing the uncertainty of selection.

This anticipation sets the stage for a thrilling encounter at Eden Park, where the Wallabies, surging with newfound confidence, will challenge the veteran might of the All Blacks.
