In a bold strategic move, John Dobson has appointed Ruhan Nel as the captain for the Stormers in their upcoming clash against the reigning champions, Leinster, this Friday at Cape Town. Taking over from the absent Salmaan Moerat and Deon Fourie, Nel's new role is a testament to his robust insight and alignment with the team's tactical ambitions.

Dobson expressed his confidence in Nel, stating, “He has been part of the leadership group for some time and is completely aligned with the coaching team in terms of the way we want to play.” This nod to Nel's leadership underscores a well-thought-out decision to keep the team's dynamics cohesive and driven.

The Stormers are not just stopping at a change in captaincy. Nel will be joined by Dan du Plessis in the midfield, with the electric Leolin Zas and Seabelo Senatla on the wings, and Wandisile Simelane covering the fullback position, stepping in for the injured Warrick Gelant. The team’s backbone will feature Jurie Matthee and Stefan Ungerer controlling the game's tempo from the halfback.

“There has been a lot of hard work put in from players and management to get to this point and we are all very excited to get going,”

With Springboks Neethling Fouché and André-Hugo Venter packing down with Vernon Matongo in the front row, and the solid pairing of JD Schickerling and Adré Smith in the second row, the lineup is looking formidable. The bench isn't short of talent either, with newcomers like 19-year-old prop Olly Reid, loose forward Ruan Ackermann, and flyhalf Clinton Swart poised to make their debut.

The team's readiness is palpable, with Dobson highlighting the intense preparation leading up to this season opener. Facing off against Leinster means there's little margin for error, but the Stormers are determined, backed by a robust squad and the roaring support of their home crowd.
