In a last-minute twist that could rival any soap opera, Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt has pulled a rabbit out of his hat by swapping out a forward for a back on the bench, just when we thought the lineup was set in stone. Flyhalf Tane Edmed is now set to bring some extra flair, taking over from loose forward Nick Champion de Crespigny. It’s a bold move that screams, “Hold my beer, Rassie!”

Explaining the switch, Wallabies skipper Harry Wilson shared his confidence in Edmed’s capabilities.

"We’ve got a lot of confidence in him, he’s been around the group now for a little while and what he’s put in on the training park has been first class,"

Wilson stated, clearly impressed by Edmed’s prowess during practice.

Originally, the plan was for Nic White and Andrew Kellaway to double as makeshift flyhalves after Ben Donaldson’s untimely injury forced a rethink. Schmidt, keeping his cards close to his chest until the eleventh hour, hinted at potential changes earlier in the week.

"Nic White can cover 10 and is astute enough to do so, Andrew Kellaway has the skill set as well if we go with what we’ve got at the moment,"

Schmidt remarked, giving a nod to his team's adaptability.

The reshuffle marks Edmed's comeback to the international scene, his first cap since the Wallabies' clash with Ireland at the end of 2024. Meanwhile, the Springboks are also tweaking their bench, with Boan Venter stepping in for the "niggled" Jan-Hendrik Wessels, proving that pre-game jitters and last-minute injuries are all part of the drama in the Rugby Championship.

As both teams gear up, the starting line-up for the Wallabies reads like a who's who of rugby talent, promising a thrilling encounter on the field. With Tom Wright, Max Jorgensen, and the powerful Taniela Tupou ready to unleash havoc, fans are in for a treat. The inclusion of Edmed might just be the wildcard that keeps everyone on their toes. So, grab your jerseys and your game face; the TRC is about to get a whole lot more interesting.
