With Siya Kolisi poised to make a dramatic return to the Sharks lineup this Friday against Edinburgh after shaking off a calf injury, all eyes aren't just on his comeback. The Sharks' midfield has undergone a transformation that’s truly stealing the spotlight. Set to make his 50th appearance for the Durban squad, Kolisi, the Bok captain, will start from the bench in what is a crucial away game for his team’s slim playoff hopes.

The Sharks, currently sitting uncomfortably at 11th place, are teetering on the edge as they prepare to invade Hive Stadium. With a playoff berth barely within reach, head coach JP Pietersen has been grappling with an expanding list of injured players, the latest being Ethan Hooker who dislocated his shoulder in last week's clash against the Ospreys.

Pietersen, in response to recent challenges, has made strategic adjustments to the starting lineup. “We’re looking for stability and some new dynamics in our game plan,” he explained. The veteran Makazole Mapimpi steps in for Hooker, while André Esterhuizen, the team captain, will pair up with Siya Masuku in a revamped midfield duo. The backline remains youthful, with teenage fullback Zekhethelo Siyaya holding his position after a standout performance last week.

"We're on our deathbed but still breathing. It's do or die now,"

Pietersen remarked, highlighting the dire situation but resilient spirit within the camp.

The Sharks lineup for the upcoming match is as follows:

SHARKS – 15 Zekhethelo Siyaya, 14 Edwill van der Merwe, 13 André Esterhuizen (c), 12 Siya Masuku, 11 Makazole Mapimpi, 10 Jean Smith, 9 Jaden Hendrikse, 8 Emmanuel Tshituka, 7 Vincent Tshituka, 6 Phepsi Buthelezi, 5 Emile van Heerden, 4 Jason Jenkins, 3 Hanro Jacobs, 2 Fez Mbatha, 1 Phatu Ganyane.

Bench: 16 Eduan Swart, 17 Ox Nché, 18 Vincent Koch, 19 Corné Rahl, 20 Nicholas Hatton, 21 Siya Kolisi, 22 Bradley Davids, 23 Marnus Potgieter.

As the Sharks brace for a battle that could define their season, the return of Kolisi and the shift in midfield dynamics might just be the catalyst they need to salvage their campaign and maybe, just maybe, turn their fortunes around in the nick of time.
