Jake White has declared that the seasoned members of the Springbok team have successfully demonstrated their staying power, following a thrilling series win against the All Blacks. After a shaky start at Ellis Park, the Boks roared back to secure a 3-1 victory in the series, with significant contributions from their veteran players.
White pointed to the likes of Pieter-Steph du Toit, Malcolm Marx, Jesse Kriel, Eben Etzebeth, Damian de Allende, and Deon Fourie, noting that their resilience and performance have quieted any doubts about their longevity. These players stood tall in the face of fierce competition, underlining their importance to the team's success.
"As is often discussed, the Springboks have a clutch of ageing players, so to win three consecutive Tests over three weekends shows their detractors that they still have the burning desire, and most importantly legs, to go the distance," White stated in his RugbyPass column.
"They've gone to some dark places and come through the other side."
White also touched on what these performances mean looking towards the World Cup knockout stages, where delivering under pressure is non-negotiable. He lauded Rassie Erasmus for his ability to continuously motivate the team, proving pivotal in their recent successes.
"What has impressed me is Rassie’s powers to motivate, time and time again."
Following this series, White emphatically suggests that no dramatic changes are needed within the Springbok setup. His confidence in the current roster is evident, as he sees their recent success as a benchmark for other teams to aspire to.
"I was asked yesterday, what should the Springboks change? Well, I would say nothing. Without being arrogant, it’s for the chasing pack to catch up."
