In a pivotal opening clash of the Nations Championship at Johannesburg's Ellis Park, Springboks' stalwarts Damian Willemse and Cheslin Kolbe are set to celebrate their 50th Test caps under the guidance of head coach Rassie Erasmus. This match against England not only marks a significant milestone for the duo but also sees South Africa defending their top position in the World Rugby rankings, following a commanding 80-31 triumph over the Barbarians.

The Springboks' lineup showcases a blend of seasoned campaigners and emerging talents. Erasmus, opting for experience coupled with youthful exuberance, has placed his trust in Manie Libbok at fly-half over Handre Pollard, with Grant Williams partnering him at scrum-half. The back-three comprises the milestone men Willemse and Kolbe alongside Kurt-Lee Arendse, while the center pairing features Jesse Kriel and Damian de Allende.

The forward pack remains robust with Jasper Wiese, Pieter-Steph du Toit, and captain Siya Kolisi. The locks Ruan Nortje and Eben Etzebeth anchor the scrum, supported by the formidable front-row trio of Thomas du Toit, Malcolm Marx, and Ox Nche. Off the bench, versatility is key with Andre Esterhuizen able to cover the back-row, complemented by a mix of power and pace from Jan-Hendrik Wessels, Gerhard Steenekamp, and others.

"England are a quality outfit, and we are expecting them to give everything they have in this match,"

said Erasmus, emphasizing the intensity of the upcoming encounter. He continued, "The players have worked very hard at training, and they know what it takes to perform against a side of this calibre with a good coaching team."

Erasmus also highlighted the emotional significance of the occasion for Willemse and Kolbe: "They have both been stalwarts for us over the years, and as a team, we would like to make it a memorable day for them. It’s not every day you have two players playing their 50th Test, so that will certainly add to our motivation this week."

The match promises to be a tactical and physical battle, with both teams looking to start their campaign on a high note. The Boks, buoyed by their recent performances and the milestones of key players, are poised to deliver a game that reflects their dominance and strategic prowess on the international stage.
