As the Springboks gear up for a critical showdown with the All Blacks at Eden Park, head coach Rassie Erasmus has made it clear: there's no room for experiments. With captain Siya Kolisi's participation hanging by a thread due to a recent injury, the team is facing a conundrum. Despite the uncertainty, Erasmus confirmed that Kolisi, who is currently "bracketed" in the matchday 23, will definitely return to full fitness for the upcoming Rugby Championship clash in Wellington.

The Boks' lineup has been compromised with a number eight dilemma, as injuries have sidelined Elrigh Louw, Cameron Hanekom, and Juarno Augustus, while Jasper Wiese remains unavailable due to a suspension concluding this weekend. Amidst these challenges, Kolisi's readiness for the game remains uncertain. He kicked off the season playing against Australia at Ellis Park, and his potential role against the All Blacks is pivotal, contingent on his fitness.

Erasmus expressed the weight of the decision, acknowledging the formidable challenge of facing New Zealand at their stronghold. "We brought 36 guys on tour, Jasper is only available next week, and Siya is touch-and-go for this week," he noted, emphasizing the strategic caution being exercised.

"It's again one of those calls that must be made with a little bit of a longer-term mindset. Next week, he will be 100%,"

Erasmus also hinted at the emotional tug-of-war regarding Kolisi playing in what would be a landmark match against Ardie Savea, who celebrates his 100th Test cap for the All Blacks. "It is an emotional decision, and it’s one that we haven’t quite finalized. The heart says let’s play him, but the mind says let’s watch until Thursday," he revealed.

With the Rugby Championship stakes escalating, Erasmus underscored the necessity of fielding the strongest and fittest squad against the All Blacks, discarding any notion of taking risks with team selection. "Normally, we don’t experiment too much against New Zealand. We try to put the fittest, in-form, available team out there, and I think this will be the case," he affirmed. This approach is a shift from previous strategies where victories allowed for experimental lineups against other teams.

The Springboks' tactical steadfastness and selection will be pivotal in their quest to reclaim momentum and secure a win in the fiercely competitive Rugby Championship landscape.
