Stormers' head honcho John Dobson is eyeing a strategic move to strengthen his squad by bringing in two seasoned Springboks on loan. Among the targets is the illustrious Faf de Klerk, a dual World Cup champ currently with the Cheetahs, and undoubtedly a game-changer in the scrumhalf role.
De Klerk's recent performances in the Currie Cup have been nothing short of stellar, showcasing his skills that also shone brightly during his stints with the Pumas, Lions, Sale Sharks, and Canon Eagles.
The need for such reinforcements has become acute for the Stormers, particularly after veteran Dewaldt Duvenage hung up his boots following a match against the All Blacks and Imad Khan succumbed to a serious knee injury. Dobson's plan includes a potential short-term deal for Louis Schreuder, a former Stormer now playing with the Boland Cavaliers.
"Loan players are an option, like Faf and Louis Schreuder from Boland. We are looking at that,"
Meanwhile, as the Stormers maneuver through their options, they are also considering Haashim Pead from the Lions. However, a reunion with Herschel Jantjies of Bayonne is off the table, with Dobson explicitly dismissing that possibility in his strategy.
This strategic shuffle by Dobson underscores a broader intent to infuse the Stormers with both talent and experience, leveraging seasoned players to elevate the team's competitive edge in upcoming matches. As these negotiations unfold, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely, eager to see how these potential additions could reshape the team's dynamics on the field.
