Stormers vs Bulls: Pre-Season Showdown Details

Vodacom Bulls' head coach Johan Ackermann has shared plans for an upcoming pre-season clash with the Stormers. This announcement follows shortly after the Bulls faced a tough game against the All Blacks, losing 50-19 at Loftus Versfeld in what was a preparatory match for the upcoming season. The clash against the Stormers is scheduled for September 11 at Faure Street Stadium in Paarl.

While discussing the team's schedule, Ackermann detailed the time leading up to the United Rugby Championship (URC) 2026-27 season opener against Zebre in Parma on September 26. The team has a structured plan in place, with adequate rest and training periods before their European matches, including encounters against Zebre and Munster.

"Before the URC kicks off, we’ve only got one warm-up game and that’s against the Stormers on 11 September down in Paarl where the schools play their derby,"

Following their recent game, the Bulls have identified key areas for improvement. Coach Ackermann emphasized the importance of conditioning and integrating new strategies in the upcoming weeks. Despite the defeat, he believes the game against the All Blacks provided valuable insights that will strengthen the team's performance.

"I know I said it disrupted our pre-season, but after tonight I do know that we’ll take a lot out of the game in terms of what we can work on."

Ackermann also expressed his satisfaction with the team's progression and readiness to compete at higher levels. The experience against a formidable team like the All Blacks is something Ackermann feels will benefit the Bulls immensely.

"As coaches, we’re excited about what we saw, and it’s great for the players to now know what it takes to play at that level. It’s an experience I think they’ll keep forever," he added.

As the Bulls prepare for their next challenge, the focus clearly remains on honing skills and conditioning to ensure they are competitive in the URC and beyond. With a strategic schedule and a focus on critical game components, the Bulls aim to enter the season in top form.
