In a surprising turn of events, towering Wallabies lock Will Skelton will not join the squad for the upcoming Bledisloe Cup matches against a 'fired-up' All Blacks team. Head Coach Joe Schmidt, after reshuffling his lineup post the Rugby Championship matches, confirmed Skelton's absence due to commitments with his French club, La Rochelle. Meanwhile, fly-half James O’Connor is making a transcontinental dash back from Europe, reinstated to the squad over the recently recovered Ben Donaldson.

Skelton's commitment to his club meant missing pivotal games, and now, the Bledisloe Cup opener in Auckland. There's a glimmer of hope for his fans, as Schmidt hinted at a possible inclusion for Skelton in Perth, depending on the team's performance in the initial match against New Zealand. "The door is not completely closed for Will to join us in Perth," Schmidt remarked, keeping options open based on the upcoming game's outcome.

"After an intense period, from the British and Irish Lions Series, playing in South Africa, and then here in Australia against Los Pumas, it's been ideal for players to take a breath before heading to Auckland for the fifth match in the Rugby Championship," Schmidt said.

Schmidt's squad sees the return of several players sidelined due to injuries. Nick Frost and Len Ikitau are back in action after missing the defeat to Argentina, and Jake Gordon returns to bolster the scrum-half options following Nic White's re-retirement. Schmidt's selection reflects a strategic mix of experience and fresh talent, aiming to clinch a victory that has eluded Australia since 2003.

The Wallabies are currently balanced in the Rugby Championship with two wins and two losses. They kicked off with a stunning victory against the Springboks and outplayed Argentina in round three. However, both teams avenged their losses in subsequent rematches, setting a precedent the Wallabies hope to break against the formidable All Blacks.

Wallabies squad for the Bledisloe Cup:

Forwards: Allan Alaalatoa, Angus Bell, Josh Canham, Nick Champion De Crespigny, Nick Frost, Tom Hooper, Fraser McReight, Josh Nasser, Zane Nonggorr, Brandon Paenga-Amosa, Billy Pollard, Tom Robertson, Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, James Slipper, Carlo Tizzano, Taniela Tupou, Rob Valetini, Jeremy Williams, Harry Wilson

As the Wallabies prepare to face a charged All Blacks squad, the stakes are higher than ever, with hopes pinned on reclaiming a long-lost trophy and rewriting the annals of a fierce trans-Tasman rivalry.
