The Wallabies are cranking up the gears for the second Test against the British and Irish Lions at MCG Stadium in Melbourne, with a significant power boost in the form of returning lock Will Skelton. The towering second-rower is set to rejoin the starting lineup, reinforcing the squad as head coach Joe Schmidt recalibrates his forward pack and bench strategy to amplify the Wallabies' physical game.

Sliding into the pack alongside Skelton is Melbourne's own Rob Valetini, a back-to-back John Eales Medallist, starting at blindside flanker. Valetini's inclusion is one of three tweaks to the starting forwards, replacing Nick Champion de Crespigny. The trio is completed by Fraser McReight and skipper Harry Wilson, ensuring a potent mix in the loose. The front row sees David Porecki taking over hooking duties from Matt Faessler, flanked by seasoned props James Slipper and Allan Alaalatoa.

The backline remains untouched from their previous outing, with Jake Gordon and Tom Lynagh as the halves. Midfielders Len Ikitau and Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii will continue their partnership, while wing positions are held by Harry Potter and Max Jorgensen, and Tom Wright retains his spot at full-back.

"The squad has recovered well after a very physical first Test. We took some confidence from the second half last week, but we know we'll need to improve further against a Lions team that will bring plenty of fire to the contest on Saturday night,"

said Schmidt.

Furthermore, the bench reflects Schmidt’s strategy to fortify the Wallabies' physicality with a 6-2 split favoring forwards, including the addition of back-rower Langi Gleeson. The reserves also feature Jeremy Williams, Carlo Tizzano, and a consistent replacement front row with Billy Pollard, Angus Bell, and Tom Robertson. Tate McDermott and Ben Donaldson are set to cover the backline.

"It sounds ridiculous that a lot can change with one man, but the guy is an absolute freak and I’m very one-eyed obviously because I see everything good about him,"

remarked Ronan O’Gara, Skelton’s club coach and former Lion, emphasizing the impact Skelton could have on their performance.

The Wallabies are set to tackle the Lions with renewed vigor and a strategic focus on power play, as they look to level the series in what promises to be a bruising encounter under the lights in Melbourne.
