Cape Town - The civil rights organisation AfriForum has appealed to Haroon Lorgat, CEO of Cricket South Africa (CSA), to undergo a lie detector test in which he must confirm or deny that race prescriptions were laid down for the composition of the Proteas team during the recent Cricket World Cup.

AfriForum offered to pay the costs relating to such a test in full.

This follows after Lorgat denied that he laid down race prescriptions for the composition of the Proteas for the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand.

According to Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum, Lorgat’s denial is not credible, seeing as it can clearly be concluded from the team selections that the current performance of players was not the only criteria being followed to compose the team.

Lorgat has the opportunity to restore his name in honour with the lie detector test and should he tell the truth, he has no reason to refuse undergoing a lie detector test,” said Kriel.

Kriel argues that it is important that cricket supporters worldwide get clarity concerning whether the World Cup really was a display window of the world’s best players and if politics and race played a role in team selections.

South African cricket enthusiasts, in particular, have the right to know whether the team that is being supported, was chosen on merit,” added Kriel.

If Lorgat refuses to undergo a lie detector test, AfriForum will, according to Kriel, go full steam ahead to submit a formal complaint against Cricket South Africa (CSA) to the International Cricket Council (ICC) as a result of the race prescriptions that are laid down for the composition of the national team.

Kriel made an appeal to members of the public to, in the meantime, add their name to the proposed complaint to the ICC by sending an SMS containing their name to 45343 at R1/SMS.

WELL DONE AFRIFORUM ITS ABOUT TIME THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY STOPPED ALLOWING THE ANC TO BRING ITS RACE OBSESSIONS INTO SPORT.

S END YOUR SMS

Of course the players could simply tell the truth.  Sometimes you have to stand up and be counted. It would have been better before the game.....but a simple team statement now, would at least put these shadow warriors on notice.

Remember the courage of Eric Liddell when he took on the whole system for his beliefs. Why are we so much less today?

Chariots of Fire. Great movie!
I hear you Moz, but any individual that tries to stand up to the establishment will be accused of being racist and will be victimised for the rest of their career. If the whole team did it, it may be a different story, but that is not likely to happen.

A lie-detector test may not work in the case of a habitual liar like Lorgat.   The Indians caught him out and banned him from going to India - they would not believe a word he said.

Bloo I'm afraid it's object now or object later. These guys aren't going to stop until they are embarrassed. This is a golden opportunity in my view, because the facts are so egregious. Easy for me to say, I know, but taking risks when you know you are right is a little less daunting.
There was zero bias in selecting the Proteas team...performers of all races were welcomed into the family. It was an exemplary example of being sensitive, but still being fair. Exemplary up until the politicians got in on the act. This is the moment to make the point...there will never be a better one.

There's always an excuse for sitting on the fence, our biggest handicap is overcoming the fears within although I'm not convinced that it's for the players as a group to take a stand. However, if Vernon Philander had the courage of conviction he should have declined his own selection. That's what I would have done, that's what anyone with some moral fibre would have done.

My thoughts are that the likes of Lorgat are mere puppets of ANC policy, the real culprit is the moron Minister of Sport FicKle Mablula.

I stand corrected but the selection policy is to have a minimum of 4 players of colour in the team and a certain amount in the squad. Cut it anyway you like but for my money that's a racist selection policy.

Smithy said it as well, he only had the team of his choice 50% of the time.

What really riles me is the stench left behind by the Minister of Sport and his puppets as they slither away  wishing the issue to disappear instead of fronting the fans with the truth.....even if it's their truth.

Mike

You say Lorgat was "caught out and banned from visiting India"....what exactly did he do? I kinda missed that story.
