PS, I think more runs were scored off a game where either the ball was lost in field, or were stuck in a tree in field. Can't remember the details. ..anyone?

Yup ,runs taken running between wickets then overthrows ,pretty sure I saw 8 runs scored back in the 80s but I may have been drunk at the time and seeing double ...

You have all forgotten about the 'hit helmet' rule.

If a bowler bowls a ball and the batsman edges the ball on to a helmet behind the keeper, that is five runs.

So with that in mind, an unlikely scenario is...

1. batsman edges ball and hits helmet (5 runs), and also takes 1 run = 6 runs
2. the fielder then takes aim at the stumps for a run out and misses, the ball goes for 4 over throws = another 4 runs.
3. Whilst the ball is still travelling to the boundary for the overthrows, the batsman run another 2 = 2 runs

So the total i have here is 12 runs.

Any arguments?

Some disturbing remarks....once a boundary is scored no further debate...if a ball lands in a tree ...how come a growing in the middle of a cricket field ...this is not cricket but golf...I remember a little pine tree that grew on the 18th hole in Clovelly, Fish Hoek in WP...WP open Gary Player drove a shot thAT RESTED EXACTLY AT THE STEM OF THIS TREE...HE ATTACKED THE TREE PUSHING IT BACK AND FORTH AND EXCLAIMING...WHAT A RIDICULOUS PLACE TO ALLOW A TREE TO GROW IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 18TH HOLE FAIRWAY...

I have seen 5 all run at the Adelaide oval .Plus a 'dead' ball where a bowler hit a bird flying across the wicket at the same ground

If your team is full of ole fellas then the chase to the boundary could take an age, another reason to avoid mozart's selections
