I've ever seen a more childlike opening ceremony than last nights CWC. Here comes AB De Villiers and the Proteas...yeah right and the camera pans elsewhere but AB and the Proteas? And what on Earth has McCaw got to do with cricket? As for the musos and choice of song other than the lady who sang "The wind beneath my wings"(forget her name) well, it was just dreadful.

Anyway, just my whinge, onto the cricket which hopefully will fill our lounge rooms with lots  of intrique, excitement, courage and skill and a Protea win.

I would have to agree Denny. I flicked it on and couldn't sit through more than five minutes. At least its out of the way now and the actual cricket can begin.

It is par for the course with opening ceremonies. The last one I saw that actually impressed me was Beijing Olympics.

There were lots of praises from all over the world for the London one as well, BB. I thought that it was great. Still remember Mr Bean "performing" his piano solo with the symphonic orchestra in "Chariots of Fire", .

Can't abide Opening or Closing Ceremonies....that goes for those on my own country ! But some are more shambolic and toe-curling than others. Sounds like I missed a "treat" with this one !
Saffex.....take your hanky, like I told you

 Oh my gosh.
Just watched re run of the opening ceremony.
By far the worst opening i have EVER seen.

Watching golf is more exciting that that.

I was actually cringing for them when i say spectators walking out.

Dearest Cloudy, With all due respect to your indifference of  the amazing game and world of cricket allow me to say each his/her own and also allow me to say I do understand.

That said, let me assure that the game of cricket is quite a unique science that combines and balances both the conditions of the weather and wicket, individual and team skills and mental strength combined with smart decisions by astute Captains. To labour the point, it can be compared to a game of Chess rolled into a game of rugby without the physicality and although some here could elaborate even further my lasting thought of the game of cricket is that my life would have been highly inadequate had I not discovered the many, many pleasures it has given me over many years.

In passing I salute some of cricket's  noble servants....2 from each country(there are several others)

Sir Donald Bradman

Shane Warne

Sir Vivian Richards

Sir Garfield Sobers

Graeme Pollock

Barry Richards

Martin Crowe - NZ

Sir Richard Hadlee - NZ

Imran Khan

Wasim Akram

Saschin Tendulkar

Kapil Dev

Sir Ian Botham

Baron Colin Cowdrey

And to finish off on a lighter note, I'm sure you will find something funny in this little titbit...cheers

Sadly ( or should that be thankfully ?  ) I didn't get to see the England/ Aus game but I am not at all surprised by the outcome. Hoping to get to see some of the matches if circumstances allow.
