Well, was that Noel Coward...I cannot remember, such a long time ago.

Bec's it probably is horrible for the English today, not even a shadow of the past.

I honestly think that their are not any true Englishmen left

It was dear old Noel and the real saying is " Mad Dogs OF Englishmen Go Out In The Midday Sun "
No, I think you're right....none left in the Cricket team at any rate ! And they are few and far between elsewhere.
The Rugby lot show a bit of backbone more often than not, and more of the pride, but that still tends to go a wandering when it shouldn't.
Need a bit more of that Agincourt spirit, I think, Seb. But I don't know where we find it these days. It's all going down the pan

Keep handing your country over to foreigners and in 20 years an "englishman will be a rarity. A more silly bunch are hard to find.
W hy have any immigration in such an over crowded little Island?

You know Bec's traditionally I should be anti English but like Jannie Smuts who loved Churchill...I'm the same...it's got to do with admiration of your opponent...a respect we had at school when I was young. It's great priviledge to discern this...I went to a very traditional English school in Pietermaritzburg...the very last outpost of the British Empire. I grew up with people with hot potato accents, my friends were at posh schools in Natal and Cape Town, like Michaelhouse, Hilton and Bishops but me myself went to an ordinary school , SACs and Maritzburg College. My ancestors were only Irish, Scots, German and French...what a mongrel...very little in common with each other, in fact historically enemies and then I marry a blue blood Russian. We got too old and sensible to have kids...it's not because we couldn't ,it's just because of economic, financial and geographical and perhaps more so political reasons. I wish Elena was my first wife...she is beautiful, good and reliable...never had this before, not even close.

But to come back, I admire the Old England greatly, I lap up Churchill greatly, read all his books and also loved Maggie with all her faults. I loved the late King George XVI and despised his brother the weak dethroned King...never a king in my books and adore the present queen...a very old lady that still works harder than any politician and certainly than any of us.

I genuinely feel for the 2 grandchildren, brothers, William and Harry who I believe have true British grit left...my wife met them by accident outside East London, when they were raising funds for charity, driving bikes near Mazeppa Bay...really lovely , humble guys, hard to believe grandchildren of the Queen...my wife says despite, Dianes indiscretions and Charles as well they must have both been good parents. I certainly agree...really tough, witty and natural young men

Does England still rule the waves? obviously not but remnants of true aristocracy has been left in William and Harry.. they both love rugger as they say and good dart players

Becs I have a soft spot for England.

England is fine, it has the second most important financial centre on the planet. And some of the people who work there are actually English.

Ah well, Seb, the non-Royal side of their family hail from my neck of the woods and the boys Grandfather was a very friendly chap, despite being an Earl ( the family were but humble sheep traders until they became King Makers and had the Title bestowed upon them ! ) Their Uncle, the present Earl has always been pleasant enough on the only occasions I have seen him.As for his late father, my Uncle and Aunt used to go to Althorp House quite often whilst he was alive. They found him to be a very nice man. Diana, on the other hand, was the surliest girl one could wish to encounter, so I am told !
I'm glad you have a soft spot for us ! We're not that terrible ! I get into awful trouble because I feel the same way about you guys
I had a Great Uncle that was over in Africa during the Boer War working as a Reporter with Churchill, by the way

Beeno, we are too small, we are over full and we are drowning. Simple as that. We have Tony Blair to thank for this mess and many others. I fear what is coming next really

Sorry Becs, I really enjoy the English but Tony, David and many years ago Harold (Wilson) were not worthy to lead a great nation...it has slowly. Maggie was your only great leader since Winston. disintergrated...mainly standards and morals have blown away as the mists of Devon and Dover.

English are the most civilised nation as we Westerners understand but in reality so are the French, Germans, Scandinavians and Russians (sadly most of their Blueclip breeding was culled by the Havenots...the Scum, the Bolshy's the Plebs.

I hope William , once king can indirectly bring some respect back to the royalty (it amazes me how an inbred, middle class society who only uses achievement and wealth as a measure of greatness ie material and achiever America almost puts the rest of the world to sterilely score points in business, sport and financial achievement...the Americans are lovely people but selfishness has twisted them up...the falsse pumped witches and positive speakers on talk shows.. a scre..wed nation.
