Before yesterday AB de Villiers 176 off 104 balls was the clear Protea pinnacle in terms of ferocious big ODI innings. But incredibly Klaasen’s 174 off 83 balls was 20% faster. One of the epic innings, but not even a peep on this Board. Klaasen is I guess, just unpopular. Why is hard to say, he was modest and contained in the interview after his innings.

Here are a few records he broke:

174 – Klaasen's 83-ball blitz was the highest individual score in men's ODIs for a batter coming in to bat in the 25th over or later, eclipsing AB de Villiers' 162no against the West Indies in the 2015 World Cup and Jos Buttler's knock against the Netherlands last year. It was also the second highest individual score at No.5 or lower, falling just short of Kapil Dev's 175no from No.6 against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup.

57 – Klaasen's 57-ball ton was the fastest in men's ODIs at Centurion and the second fastest against Australia, falling five balls shy of Virat Kohli's 52-ball century in Jaipur in 2013. Klaasen's hundred was also the fastest ever by a batter coming in No.5.

………

This doesn’t mean he is better than AB and even some of our other current bats. But it does mean he deserves his place in the team, something that has long been disputed.

It’s rather disappointing to see such an amazing performance receive no response on this Board.

Yes well this is primarily a rugby board and in case you didn't know, there is a RWC happening . . . but yes, great knock by Klaasen.

Edit: Scroll down two posts and you'll see Klaasen getting some credit on this board . . . before your comments.

Come now, he didn’t even spell the name right….”Klassen”…yes, I saw that post, but it’s hardly effusive. Some of those sixes Klaasen hit off wide Yorkers seemed to defy the law as of physics,
