There's no need to panic, it's an even batting strip, a small ground, I'm guessing it should trade for around 6 to 7 runs per over, 6 for sure.

Pakistan highlighted our lack of a decent allrounder, targeting JP was an obvious ploy, going for 20 runs in 2 overs is just not good enough.

So all things considered I think were in good shape.

Even though his bowling wasn't amazing, I loved how AB made the captains call of taking Duminy ouy of the firing line and bowling himself more. He even took an important wicket.

The wicket that took the game away from Pakistan. Let's see what Afridi brings to the table, he's the only one who can turn it around for them.

QDK failed again. Miller failed. Duminy failed miserably with the ball and then nothing to talk home about with the bat.
Was the start of the rot QDK putting the rest under too much pressure, hey Maaikie?

SA lose by 29 runs. Unfortunate for you Proteas. Wonder how this well change their world cup.

Bravo Pakistan, lost the toss, had their innings spoilt by rain delays yet had the class to bliksem the Proteas .  This wasn't a case of choking...... we're simply not good enough.
Thank God for the brave Lions........ first victory in NZ since 2001 .

Strange DL calculations in this match. Pakistan bowled out for 222. Rain comes and then the numbers of overs are reduced and our target increased?

Beeno, seeing that you are so enlightened, how is it that you cannot answer your own question?

AB can't manage the tail. HTF can he take a single from the first ball of an over batting with the tail? Fooking stupid!

What tail Draad? The tail today started at Quintin de Koos with minor interruptions by Amla and Faf.

AB tried his best, but one man can not win a war.

True that, Draad. His decision making is not quite spectacular. Does that perhaps explain why he is often involved in runouts?

Yes, AB is spectacular,  but tends to choke when the heat is on. Yes, our top order failed, but I expect more from the top bat in the world than just batting with the tail until you're out or they're out. Where the fight. Yes he made runs, but westill lost the match. Think Imzemam ul Haq, batting with the tail to get the ship home. Keep the strike and take the runs on offer.

All speculation, but I think AB decided with say about 6 overs left that there are just too many strike rotations, i.e. overs left (and thus opportunities for his partner to get out) and he then tried to end the game as fast as possible, but failed.

I have no answer for that one over when he rotated the strike right at the start of the over.

AB did what he had to do....he had no options. To suggest he had is just dumb.

AB did have options, Denny. He had, for instance, the option not to take one run at the start of an over when they were in trouble at the end. Definitely not when he had a tail-ender, who just came in, for a partner.

I think our oaks think we must win every time. Bit unrealistic? When we lose by some 20 odd runs the laments begin!
ODI cricket involves higher risk taking and so on any given day something can go wrong. Prefer test cricket myself and a 5 match series. Then the better side will most likely win.

Beeno, this is the issue. We had our tails up when we demolished the likes of Zim and the WI. Our average players were suddenly world beaters until we came up against slightly stiffer competition. That was when the wheels came off with silly shots and decisions.
When some of us warned about some players we were lambasted. None of those "lambasters" have had a lot to say.

I remember in the days of Hansie, the team was chasing targets brilliantly, but struggled like hell to set a decent target. Now it is just the reverse.

We are still in it and frankly anything is possible when you have players like Ab, Amla and Steyn around etc. One huge performance can decide a match. A nyside can lose not just us is my point

Agreed I did not understand why AB did not farm the strike more when he was left with the tail. Taking a single at the start of an over made no sense at all.
Miller failed - come now that was a killer yorker give the guy a break. Much like JP being hit for three 6s on a rugby field is hardly a failure. His crap shot to get out was a failure though.

Vlag, I'm quite happy to agree to disagree, AB found himself in a precarious position, 2 wickets remaining and tail-enders at that, 2 balls and it could be rollover....he had to go for everything and hope for the best. The problem was never with AB, get real, the problem became his.

But hey, you have every right to believe he made bad decisions.

Well typical misplaced confidence in Quinton...batting too high up...adjustment was needed...3 misfires in a row...Shaun Pollock said they will stick to this...he lives in my area and often see him, I would love to ask why??? Maybe that will give some insight.

Russian roulette is the policy
