Now that makes sense.....I couldn't see how sticky tape with a few grains of sand could alter a ball demonstrably. Sandpaper....you betcha. Amazing they would tell that lie under the circumstances. It makes everything else we are told questionable. It also sadly puts the whole reverse swing thing in a different perspective. Best I can tell the Aussie bowlers and particularly Starc are the kings of reverse swing. Is reverse swing 80% ball tampering....it's conceivable. And that would be sad because it's one of the new elements giving life to the 5 day game.

The bloody liars.   First of all congrats to our site member who recognized the sandpaper and give the grain particulars on this site long before the admission about sandpaper usage was made.
Secondly a serious question should be asked - where and when was the sandpaper bought?   If it was before the Durban test we can be sure it was used in the first two tests as well - even though they were not caught out  in those two tests,   That could account for the near 100% in improvement of the quality of swing bowling in the series by the Aussie bowlers.    .

This must cost Smith and Warren a fortune - I guess each of them lost circa R30 to  40 million as a result of the crooking.

Starting off each lost $2 million in playing in the IPL - then they lost their salaries and match fees for a year and there are personal sponsors who may also  cancel sponsorships.

Haysman and another expert did an evaluation of the issue of swing bowling in the first three tests and found that -

*   reverse swing by SA bowlers became noticeable from the earliest  at about overs 40  to 50- in the case of the Aussie bowlers it commenced roundabout over 30;

*  compared to the performance of the Aussie bowlers in their last 16 tests played in Australia, the gulf states (against Pakistan) and the sub-continent there was a circa 100% increase of the quality and effectiveness of swing bowling in the first three tests played in SA.

For me it was a clear indication that the sandpaper usage was in full swing in the first two tests already,    Under the circumstances we were probably wrong in criticizing the batting performance of our players so much.

So I'm the only one not falling for it I guess.

It was tape.

If he used sandpaper here then it's much easier to distance him from cheating in The Ashes using sugar and tape.

Australia are now in full deception mode :)

We will see in the fourth test whether the Aussie bowlers continue with their reverse swing bowling on the level maintained in the first two tests - it already was reduced in the third test and that is probably due to them being caught out in the latter test.

Will be really funny to see what happens.  If it is reduced to the Aus sie levels in their home tests over the last year - it would prove that the skullduggery was present in all three previous tests.
