Sri Lanka.....the wrong team at the wrong time
Mozart
Yes I agree with you about Sri Lanka. What was even worse is losing a test series against the plonkers - it showed serious deficiencies in the Proteas team.
Virtually all world class bowlers are in the IPL starting next week and eight of our top players are there too. Even though it is not a international competition - the SA batsmen will be exposed to those bowlers in the competition.
All of Rabada, Ngidi, Nortje and Tahir will also be in the IPL and it will be interesting to see how they do against the top world batsmen.
I wish somebody could have a heartfelt talk to AB - also in the IPL - and convince him to play in the WC a last time - we desperately need him to play for the Proteas in the WC.
Mozart it will entail playing maximum of eleven matches over a two month period, That is a lot less than he will play in the IPL.
His best pal is Kohli - his Bengalore team team mate. Maybe he would influence him to play another WC with him also playing.
By the way - Mozart - I can remember about 6 months ago you suggested that De Kock be replaced by Klaasen, What makes you change your mind after 5 years of maligning him?
“......the SA batsmen will be exposed to those bowlers in the competition. ”
But but but......
“It's going to be so different in England facing quality bowling and pressure, in front of foreign audiences on softer pitches. ”
See why your remark, eluding to an advantage of playing in the IPL, makes no sense? I’m talking about the difference in pitches.
Have a look at this. Cricket in India are two completely different kettles of fish
“India
The wickets in India tend to be very low and slow, the ball favours a lot of spin, and it is much harder for fast bowling as there isn’t a lot of bounce and pace in the wicket. The Indian lifestyle is very different, for example, Indian people are late risers, their day will start later and therefore have dinner later, therefore requiring a change to usual preparation and routine for non-local players. The heat is one of the main challenges an international athlete will face in India. This climate can cause the player to need to alter their preparation for matches. For example, due to the hot playing conditions, players might need to drink more fluids and eat different foods to cope with this change. Therefore it is important players adapt quickly to these changes to maintain consistent performance.England
In England as a result of the cold weather, it causes the pitches to swing and seam a little bit more than usual, this can make it quite tough and challenging for batting at times. Again a very different culture and climate to what you would experience in the subcontinent. Adapting preparation and being flexible is once again important to be able to have success here.
Vlag you forget to mention an added variant.....the Duke ball.
The pitches and balls will favour England - but they are by no means unbeatable. They never - even in England has won a WC series since the 1990's and the nearest they came was the final in 1992 in Australia when they were beaten by Pakistan in the final.
They played well in England - but not well in other countries - so lets wait and see what happens. .
