The problems involved do not relate to the constant harping on De Kock by Mozart, but refer to reality and not fiction.
It involves the following:-
Amla
This once great batsman of the past has in recent times showed constant deficiency, He nade 35 yesterday and one of the Aussie presenters during the match made an observation that is batting problems are due to older players developing co-ordination problems and that affects their batiing negatively,
As players gets older the situation gets worse. In some players this tendency showed earlier than in others, for instance there is no indication that it affects De Villiers yet – but it definitely affects Faf du Plessis as discussed hereunder,
Players already showing that deficiency do not improve their batting – it will progressively deteriorates further,
It is high time that consideration be given to bring in a batsman to replace him.
Du Plessis
He has the same problem as Amla and his batting performance against the Aussies was really even worse than Amla’s. The problem here is that he is the captain as well - he is a very good one – but cannot remain the captain as his batting is sub-par and the captaincy must be with a player whose selection is a certainty.
I cannot see how Du Plessis can remain in the squad much longer if his batting does not improve, and at his age it s not likely to happen.
I think there is a tendency to think of Markram as the future captain of the Proteas – but am not sure who should replace him as a batsman. There are in fact a number of players whoshouuld be tried out. However, it would be foolish to follow the Meyer example and keep Du Plessis and Amla until the 2019 WC.
Elgar
Elgar is a gritty player and a fighter - but his success rate is questionable. Lets be more explicit – in the present Aussie series he played in seven innings and it is unlikely that there would be another innings played.
In those seven innings he made one century and another very good score – but in the remaining innings played he failed badly. Elgar us not really a classical batsman since he has technical problems.
He is not involved in the shorter versions of the game and that makes it unnecessary to bear in mind the upcoming WC – but as a test batsman one expect grittiness – but with a constant high level performance not marred by technical deficiency.
It would to my mind be necessary to start looking at his replacement in the medium term.
