It’s been reported on some of the sites HasBeen frequents that biltong taken in generous quantities every second day does remarkably well as a vaccine alternative.
But there are some important details. It has to be Kudu Biltong, regular beef biltong scarcely performs better than than the horse medicine. Also it’s important to chew thoroughly which releases the protective enzymes. Horse doctors also believe it can be taken with beer, but not with spirits as the protective properties are apparently drastically reduced by concentrated alcohol.
It’s a plausible concern you have more alcohol in your mouth with every sip of a good scotch than any beer. So if that coincides with the main biltong dose, it could be an issue.
The merits of ostrich biltong have not been tested, but it’s a moot point. There aren’t enough of the big birds to offer a significant source of the biltong vaccine.
The prospect of large scale Kudu farming is also not without it’s critics. The green movement has already likened it to Bitcoin mining as a new source of man made made carbon. Although the scientists on these publications are quick to point out it’s not man made, but really kudu made.
A UN source has said they would view this in the same light as China or India and provide carbon waivers, as long as the farmers raising the animals met the same quota requirements so successfully met by the Springbok team.
It looks like a green light.
