My wife tested positive for Covid on the 1st of July...her sister and myself a few days later. None of our 3 boys showed any symptoms back then. The adults all had mild symtoms and fully recovered within 10 days...no problem nè?

Well, my middle son got sick on Monday and tested positive yesterday...my wife is sick again...going to be tested later today.

The doctor is a bit baffled but suspects it might be a different strain...but he doesn't know.

I was kinda hoping that being recovered from Covid would almost be the same as being inoculated...it seems not.

We haven't seen the end of this virus by a long shot.

To be infected by Covid twice within one month could be a world record.
It might be the SA variant this time - which is more resistant to vaccines- and perhaps natural immunity from past infection as well, particularly other strains .

Shark, according to the doctor, there's more than just a few similar cases going around...according to him it can happen within the first 8 weeks from first infection...while you're not completely recovered yet....similar to the vaccine taking about a month to reach proper effectiveness.

"similar to the vaccine taking about a month to reach proper effectiveness"

Yep, any contracting of Covid immediately after your vaccine could still be extremely dangerous, as it takes a while to build up the capabilities to limit the damage that Covid could do to you.

PS...a friend of mine's wife is still quite sick with covid-like symptoms almost 2 weeks after her first jab, but tested negative.

Being sick after testing negative, might be Long Covid.

Apparently, over 1 million people in the UK are believed to have long Covid. (Even 1 year later).
Vaccines appear to help people that have long Covid, even if they are jabbed after having Covid.

Doctors and scientists aren't even close to completely understanding this disease.

@DbDraad. My son shared his experience in the below.
In August 2020 - Exposure to A variant. Only mild symptoms. Headache/Nausea.In Sept-Oct 2020 - Long Covid developed. Physician stated it can last 6-52 weeks. Vertigo! inner ear damage from "mild symptoms".
In January-March , work colleagues experienced the new Beta variant - some ending up in ICU with bubble helmets and some passing away at home with blood clots after only 3-4 days of startup symptoms. In July , we had +- 20 cases of  the Delta Variant (workforce 300 people) , resulting in mild symptoms ; mild Fever and Sinusitis.
People have adopted a basic attack strategy of Disprin/Grandpa/VitaminD/Zinc/Vit C/Andolex C mouth spray/Acc200 and 3ply or n95 mask wearing and basic breathing exercises - this has been first line of defence before getting oxygen or going to the hospital. Also keeping tabs on Spo2 levels of >94 and Fever < 37.2C .
I've tested for antibodies 10 months after my first infection and i still had IgG (antibodies) showing up on rapid tests. I am sure this did have some value during my second infection. On 17th of August , i plan to take my jab and prepare for whatever the northern hemisphere/future variants have to throw at us for summer time or the said "4th" wave.
Be safe everyone and do what is safe and right!

I think where the problem goes wrong  and Ccvid  could be deadly is when people already have morbidities  or in the case of the elderly where their immunity has weakened against all infections,

I know my 80 year-old sister-in-law was infected in January 2021 and one day felt tired and depressed - but that was all she had as a result of the infection.   she was tested negative 14 days after the first test.

Draad - I hope and pray you and your family are  fine and will be fully recovered soon.

My two youngest boys got sent home from school on Monday because the developed sore throats while at school. The school wants negative tests before allowing them back. One tested positive, the other negative.

Now here's the absurdity. According to current South African covid protocol, the one who tested negative can go back to school. The other have to isolate for 7 days. The eldest, who has no symptoms, must continue with school as normal. Same for me and my wife...continue working while we have no symptoms...surely we pose a risk of spreading although we don't have symptoms.

I suppose the risk of spreading a light variant is more acceptable than putting further strain on a severely damaged economy.

A lot of these rules and regulations don't make sense

When I got Covid, I only had the symptoms 4 - 5 days after contracting it, so clearly I was a carrier, just like you and your wife could be....

I agree, i t makes no sense

I don't get it. Why is it absurd that the one who tested negative can go back to school? That seems logical. What is absurd about that?

I don't live in a mansion...not a shack either, if one gets covid, everyone is exposed...you can test negative today and positive tomorrow...My boys are in a good, but large former model C school...lots of students...Omicron will spread like wild fire in the community. Luckily my GP gave him a normal sick sertificate for the rest of the week, to make sure we can keep him..he saw the risk even if you can't Rude...I can Luckily work from home and my wife got special leave from her office and is doing work from home too.

I didn't ask about the size of your house, nor did I ask you what type of school your kids go to and I didn't ask for your life story. I simply asked what is so "absurd" about someone testing negative being allowed to return to school or the workplace or wherever.
Oh well, if the question is too much for your feeble little brain or if it sends you into another of your self-righteous tirades then rather forget it. I don't care that much, just wondered what the heck you were talking about when what you call "absurd" sounds perfectly logical. To me anyway.

If you can't see the relevance of the context I provided,  your critical thinking skills are even worse than your self-awareness and your perpetual miserable board mood...

If only symptomatic people and people with positive test results spread covid, there would not have been a pandemic in the first place...or is that too much for your deductive abilities to process.

Yeah, I've never observed someone so devoid of context and tries vainly to nitpick, ie spelling attack or something minor, to derail you. You are talking and sharing details about you, your wife and your kids in what could or might be a serious matter and he churlishly ignores your sensitivities which we all have to our loved ones. A heartless creature.

Given the transmissibility of the disease and the testing variability, it is absurd to have one kid back at school and the other in quarantine. Peeper apparently is as poor at logic as he is at numbers.
