By now, most of us have taken measures against and/or been affected in some way by la pandemia.

So, how's it affected you?

Personally, I found myself buying large quantities of rice, oats, oil and more mussels than I think I'll ever eat. Not really the virus that I'm worried about. More the mass fuckery of the news and social media.

One kinda feels like we're one viral video away from a shitstorm. No?

Too much power is able to be shifted on too whimsical a fulcrum.

One has to concede that social media and the internet at large is also a source for good information/guidance.

Once this subsides, whenever that is, and among other things, we'll likely see regulations on social media that erode citizen privacy further. You know, to help us avoid situations like this in the future.

Most here are probably not too concerned on that front since I doubt there are many social media endorphin addicts among us.

Though, it does point to a future society where online speech and association are regulated much more strictly. And that will, as we see happening now, bleed down into face to face interaction as well.

This isn't to say that we are currently experiencing the fallout of a bio-weapon. Just that this is a global issue and social media is ever the fence when it comes to power trade-offs these days.

I saw something recently regarding personal social media scores and how alpha testing for the algorithms is now under way.

You can bet that health and health testing will be one of the metrics.

Mussels Plum...…didn't expect that one

Just saw a Twitter clip of some random guy overseas who says the following directly into the camera..... "Who says I'm scared of the Corona virus.....  and then proceeds to lick all the products on the shelf in that shop.....

I see Piers Morgan saw the same clip and he posted it to his 7 million followers, demanding that he should be arrested and refused medical treatment, to which I fully and comprehensively agree

So many stories are getting blown out of proportion on social media..... with too many fake news posts...... but it's the genuine personal human stories which remain with me...

All these people are dying, and they cannot even receive a last kiss or hug from their kids, grandkids, before they depart...… and each of their bodies are immediately cremated to curb or halt further infections.....

Medics, nurses and doctors are starting to show bruising and raw scabs on their faces for having to wear these masks for 12 hour shifts every single day.... their skin does not have enough time to breath and heal itself...… because of the constant long shifts.....and so many of these medics have themselves become infected and are dying..... their bravery is unmatched...…... because this is a absolutely horrific way to die..... it is not quick like a bullet..... you basically drown in your own lungs..... but slowly over a few weeks

And then this fuck nut posts himself licking bottles on the shelf...….or how about these hundreds of university students who were drinking over the weekend and chanting "Corona" Corona"..... over and over and posting it on social media....

I get it...… don't let something like this get you down..... don't let it dictate the way you live your life..... but man..... the very second that you perform some action or function that recklessly causes more people to become infected with this virus...... or it slows down a already stressed and pressured medical system, then I feel absolutely nothing for you..... nothing at all...…

In this day and age, people are doing shit like this..... to go viral......get as many likes as possible , and earn some money...… I say lock them up

6 ambulances had their tyres slashed in the UK over the weekend...… tell me please, who in their right frame of mind would ever even consider doing this, to the very people who are trying to save the country from a pandemic...… it blows my mind what sick and twisted people are out there

I’m fairly pissed off ATM. The whole of the U.K. is about to come to a standstill and while that is happening you have darling stupid people arguing about hurting others’ feelings in reports. The next phase now is that people in the so-called high risk group will be receiving letters from the NHS instructing them to isolate for 12 weeks. I suspect that I will be getting one of those soon and I’m not looking forward to it. There are supposedly between 1.4m and 1.5m and I have a very good chance to be included due to the treatment that I’m getting.

I feel your pain Ceradyne, I hope you aren't included

5 200 NHS staff are still waiting for PPE to perform their duties effectively.... which is bloody crazy

So many of them are having to wash and re- use masks to "try" and prevent any further infections

Now nurses at Hillingdon hospital, which is Boris's direct constituency, are working 36 hour shifts... and no longer 12 hours.

Matt Hancock has made promises, but actually done absolutely sweet fuck all to help these guys...….. he is a disgrace

As the letter in the Sunday Times said... from over 4 000 NHS staff...… "Save the lives of the life savers"

Never has that been so true

Tell you one thing, Plum ... the true nature of a person comes out in times like this. They forget themselves ... and we see them for what they really are ... probably for the first time ever.

The masks they wear is astounding.

When you see two grown women playing tug of war with the last bulk bag of toilet paper. When they run you over with their trolleys to get to the hand sanitizer.

When shopping centers hike up the prices and cash in on the desperate.

Personally I think we're due for a big culling. It certainly would be a step in the right direction if the casualty rate was around 75%.

It's just a pity that God sent us such a pussy virus. I'm sure He can do better than this miserable pretender.

Feeling a bit depressed about this whole Kung Flu thing to be honest.
Waiting for Ramaphosa's announcement but expecting something similar to last night where we wait and wait but we end up with nothing because no-one has a clue what to do or say or how a shut-down will effect business and the economy. I suspect that CR wants to call a national shut-down but I'm pretty sure he's under a lot of pressure from business not to do it.
From a personal point of view I'm not getting much work done . . . too busy scrambling to get hold of stocks of laptops, 3G routers and sim cards in case I have to send staff home to work and stocks of hand sanitizers, masks, gloves and surface wipes in case business stays open. Whatever we end up doing, stocks of all those items are almost impossible to get at this stage and it's going to get worse.
I've seen a few videos and pictures today of military and police presence in the Jo'burg suburbs so whatever CR has to tell us may cause alarm and panic.
Tough times. Stay safe everyone.

Perhaps now the world will wake up to how utterly useless overpaid entertainers like sports stars and actors are to humanity in times of crisis and how badly we need the thankless grafters (like nurses) who earn peanuts in comparison .

I won't hold my breath though. We live in a world that thrives on fluff, and mankind will forget quickly once the good times roll again.

Good luck to everyone.

Nothing could be further from the truth...… I see it with my own eyes every day

When shopping centers hike up the prices and cash in on the desperate

Making profit from people's misery and suffering.... It makes me sick

"Perhaps now the world will wake up to how utterly useless overpaid entertainers like sports stars and actors are to humanity in times of crisis and how badly we need the thankless grafters (like nurses) who earn peanuts in comparison"

Pakie, so well said...… look at these guys in the premier league earning over 300 000 pound a week, and then look at the images and videos of these NHS staff...… working these exhausting shifts, every day...….. not being able to buy groceries at the shops when they get off work, because the shops are depleted...… but dancing in a whole group to Ollys Murs….. yet literally still facing death every single day when working with the virus carriers..... absolutely incredible to see

NHS Dance

Masks in SA were R3.49 for one mask, or you could get a pack of 20 for R50...… now the one supplier wants to charge R38 per single mask...….

Hand sanitisers have gone up 10 times in price

Spray bottles, which were retailing for R29 have gone up to R60 - R80 because of the demand

I seriously and genuinely do wish that all of these companies were named and shamed for what they are..... parasites.... they should be called out for their actions

In a time of national need, they rather looked at inflating their profits and bottom line........but such is the world that we live in

Redneck ... you are a year older than me ... in other words, a young man ... under 60 ... and from what I can tell, you aren't ill in any way.

My understanding is that this bug takes the sickly, the elderly and the very young.

Just take the necessary precautions and you and your family should be fine.

This will blow over and when it does we can continue discussing whether Nots he is a world beater or not.

Yeah Pakie, that's good insight.

Entertainment has become a "god".

Real quality hard work receives very little acknowledgment and value...our value systems are distorted.

There is an emptiness in our souls.

Very true CC. Then, in the other hand, you have idiots over here who think this is another cool unexpected holiday. What do they do, they flock to the beaches in thousands. I heard that Hyde Park was jam packed over the weekend. They have now decided to close all parks in London because the fuckers in Londonistan think they are a step above the rest.

Yes ... we had hordes going on holiday this side too.

Stupidity will always be part of our society.

Still ... those of us who have a brain, should use it properly and protect our own with all our might.

There is no need for panic ... it just makes things worse ... and if the virus comes to our homes, we'll need to deal with that situation too ... calmly.

This is the time to be strong ... for those around us ... not to quiver in the corner.

... are you suggesting that God is our answer?

You do realize that by praying to Him and asking Him for relief, that you'll be asking the very person who brought this mess to us.

As for the church ... well ... the less said about them the better. They are as corrupt as our government.

Rooi

There is a shut down coming. Likely by the weekend and potentially sooner.

Apparently there's a 3 week window and failure to sufficiently make use of it will result in it causing havoc in the townships and elsewhere.

Dunno if you guys in SA got the whatsapp voicenote going around but the above is pretty much what it says. And only essential business will remain functional.

I can't see it being kept out of the townships. And once it gets in there the odds of stopping it running its course is slim to niks.

I'm concerned that if more people begin getting sick and dying, especially in the townships, that we may end up with anarchy. We're generally always teetering on the edge of it as it is. The township not too far from me is host to weekly protest and criminal road closures...at the best of times.

There are countless criminals in SA that can't wait for lawlessness to ensue.

My advice to all of you, not that an I'm an expert or anything, is to be extra vigilant in the comments weeks. Get on neighbourhood Whatsap groups if you aren't already.

Fuel isn't a bad idea either because people will start turning on their heating soon and we may be in for a full ration if load shedding on top of everything else.

I'm in the Jobrug area and if any of you are in need of assistance then 100% hit me up. I've got transport vehicles, borehole water and an endless supply of firewood...and zol haha.

If you exclude countries like Egypt  bordering the Med, which are more in contact with Europe  there are less than 10 deaths in total in Africa.

That strikes me as remarkable.....is it climate, is it some aspect of genetics, are the numbers wrong?

Plum you must add PRUNES and DATES to the shopping list you posted.

Yes, it is amazing how the human race can adapt and increase prices for items that are required to assist folks in the prevention of spreading the virus.

Greed before anything always.

Stay safe folks.

I went to the shop today. I don't like anyone being in my space, but with the Coronavirus this has been extended to at least 2-3 metres away from me.
Someone touched some of my shopping to make space for their own shopping on the check out counter.
I also saw someone that looked like they had very serious flue- perhaps even the Corona Virus as the symptoms are the same. Some chav-init bastard buying alcohol.
The Init Chavs take great pride is sniffing snot back to be noisy and disruptive in public places like on the train or bar/pubs etc.

God either does not exist or never gets involved.
To think God sent this virus as some type of punishment is silly, and it is also silly hoping God is going to send the cure.
It is a problem for man to resolve, and currently, there is little more that can be done. Companies are working overtime on testing cures, and people are committing to self-isolation.
Perhaps the police could start to enforce the group segregation policies to help prevent the spread of the virus. Some teenagers do not feel any threat, so they don't appear to give a crap.

As I said earlier, I expected to be one of those included in the NHS lists.

I have just received the following text message:

“NHS Coronavirus Service: We have identified that you're someone at risk of severe illness if you catch Coronavirus. Please remain at home for a minimum of 12 weeks. Home is the safest place for you. Staying in helps you stay well and that will help the NHS too. You can open a window but do not leave your home, and stay 3 steps away from others indoors. Wash your hands more often, for at least 20 seconds.

Read more advice about staying safe at home.

We will send you more messages with information.

That is unfortunate Ceradyne. It is scary for everyone, but certainly more for others with known vulnerabilities. Probably best to just stay indoors for 2 months, and order food and supplies using delivery services. (Although these are starting to get really busy).
My father lives in the flat next door, and he is in his 70's. I fear to get the virus myself but also passing it onto my father as well.
Not sure how strong my own immune system is because I often pick up the flue, so I take the flue jab each year to help avoid picking up that virus.
Hope you keep well.

We are from Thursday under complete 'lockdown.   May not leave the house other than to do monthly or weekly food purchases and for medical purposes.   Limited number of shops open.

Suppose one can potter around in the garden, not anythi ng else.

The Government issued a warning that shops who increased prices will be heavily fined,

The Government started a fund to help small businesses to keep operational and each of the Rupert and Oppenheimer families have contributed R1 billion to the fund.   Suppose other of the uItra rich will follow their example.

In the meantime we can still be on this site and keep of with our normal attacks on each other - hope with just a bit more humanity,

Bottle stores are certainly NOT on the list of open stores,  Wonder whether the wine Department at Spar would be operational?

I have not left the house for three weeks now and have had no contact with anybody at all.   Must go to get my monthly pill supply on Friday though and for the annual flu injection.

Down-spirited at best and feel like I am in some sort of a  jail.   Suppose nobody is happy with it at all.
