The "Investment" Route: Residence, Not Citizenship
Investors can secure a residence permit (not direct citizenship) through an economic contribution program. This requires:
- Financial Contribution: Agreeing to pay an annual lump-sum tax of typically between CHF 250,000 and CHF 1 million (depending on the canton and individual circumstances), or investing in a Swiss company.
- Residency Requirement: This program grants a residence permit (usually a B permit, which can lead to a C permit).
- Long-Term Process: After maintaining residence for 10 to 12 years, participants in this program may then become eligible to apply for Swiss citizenship through the standard naturalization process, provided they meet all other integration criteria (language proficiency, cultural integration, clean criminal record, etc
