It is a fact that Government administrations are incompetent when it comes to running of business enterprises - a key element of sociaist policies.
There are a number of reasons for that:-
* Staff members who have no idea about the business management at all - incompetence is then covered up by sening additional fruitless expenditure.
* Lack of interest in maintaining infrastructure and a belief in new infrastructure selected by staff who have no idea o whether there would be implementation problems. Add to that design deficiency and lack of control iro new infrastructure development.
* Political expediency that runs counter to sound financial management.
* Endemic corruption of which there are worldwide examples like despite stiff opposition from the Obama Administration, the leader of the pack was SA.
The first thing that will become a memory for many is South African Airways that will be declared bankrupt by the end of May. Should have happened years ago. My best memory of SAA was on a flight from Rome to Lisbon in 1973. On the flight was a tour group from the USA - they were so impressed the on-board service that the tour leader went to thank the captain for it. I flew thousands of miles those days and the food was perfect and enjoyable. In recent years it was a cheap abomination.
The next state companies to go is likely to be SANRAL and Eskom, The Government has no way of servicing their coronavirus debts as well as the debts the two vehicles of maximum corruption ended up with.
